Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2023 day 2 tips – Bet on Beauvatier in the opener

After what was an excellent first day, packed with thrills and spills at once of France’s premier race tracks, we move on to the second day of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend. The Sunday is always the big one and not just because the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe takes place, oh no, there’s much more than that prestigious event to get excited about.

Sunday’s card at Parislongchamp brings us top-class race after top-class race, as there are no less than six Group 1 races to get stuck into, starting with the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and ending with the Qatar Prix de la Foret.

Betting tips for day two of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2023

As touched on above, the second day of this two-day meeting is about more than just the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. There are several excellent Group 1 contests and here’s a few selections to help you on the way:

13:15 – Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere

The first race at Parislongchamp on Sunday will be the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, a Group 1 contest for horses aged two only. We have a couple of Irish raiders to consider here in the form of Henry Adams, who goes in the hands of top French jockey Christophe Soumillon, and Unquestionable for the often irresistible pairing of Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. The former is unbeaten in two starts and looked a smart prospect when winning a Leopardstown Group 3 on soft ground last time out, though this is a sizable step up. The latter would have a solid chance if continuing his progress after a slightly disappointing effort at the Curragh six weeks ago.

For my money, though, Beauvatier is hard to oppose. Raced four times, this French runner has not one blemish on his record and looked every inch a smart performer when winning over course and distance last time out. That experience should hold the colt in good stead here, while he’s already proven on soft ground.

Best bet – Beauvatier @ 3/1

15:50 – Prix de l’Opera Longines

Just after the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, we have an interesting Group 1 race for fillies and mares. There are several to consider here, including Blue Rose Cen, who is likely to go off as favourite after her recent Group 1 exploits. However, she looks far from unbeatable and at the prices, is worth opposing.

Lumiere Rock merits respect after her very taking win at the Curragh last time out, as does Jannah Rose, who when last seen beat that rival at Deauville. For my money, though, proven Group 1 performer Al Husn is the one to side with, especially at potentially generous odds of 8/1.

The mount of Jim Crowley is no back number here and should not be dismissed based on that weak effort at York last time out. After all, that came on much faster ground. On a soft service, this horse is anything but easy to get the better of. He won a Group 1 on soft ground at Goodwood in the summer, finishing in front of the likely favourite here, and beating some other horses that would rate right at the top of this contest. The credentials of Roger Varian’s runner really are solid if you ask me, too solid for 8/1 to not be considered on the generous side, that’s for sure.

Best bet – Al Husn (each-way) @ 8/1
