Melbourne Cup Tips – Three Key Predictions
Contents
With the Melbourne Cup being a G1 event, it obviously attracts some pretty substantial coverage from major bookmakers. That’s why you can glance through a range of markets and related odds before the race begins. But as diverse as some of the betting markets are for this one, we’d prefer to stick with some of the mainstream betting markets. This is mainly for simplicity, but also because the main markets are a little easier to predict – if there is such a thing in horse racing!
For that reason, you can read through the three different betting markets mentioned below and see our tips for each one of these options. Note that the odds supplied for the markets mentioned are accurate at the time of writing. Yet depending on the time that you are reading this, they may have shifted somewhat. So for that reason, we’d like to also stress that you should visit our recommended bookmakers (shown later) for the most up-to-date odds when you can.
With that important side note out of the way, let’s dive into our predictions for three of the main markets.
Winner – Deauville Legend – 3.50 Odds
There is a confirmed field of 24 horses for the Melbourne Cup. Yet of the 24 horses that are due to take to the track on Tuesday, November 1st, all of our research points to one clear winner. As you can see, that clear winner is Deauville Legend, a horse that is in great form. This is a horse that does not mess around when it comes to long-distance events, which the Melbourne Cup obviously is. In fact, Deauville Legend has posted two long-distance wins in just the last few months alone. These came at York in August and Newmarket in July.
If that wasn’t quite enough to justify picking Deauville Legend as the outright winner, there is also the jockey to mention. He will have Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, who has three Melbourne Cup wins to his name already. This combination of an in-form horse and an experienced, successful jockey makes this a red-hot choice for Tuesday’s race. And it’s pretty respectable that the odds are 3.50 too.
This shows a decent possible return if Deauville Legend does indeed pull through and win the Melbourne Cup.
To Place – Montefilia – 11.00 Odds
Montefilia is a horse that has been very active throughout the 2022 season. She has produced some truly great performances to date, and if you were to back a horse based on recent form alone, Montefilia does look ideal. Of course, with the Melbourne Cup being a long-distance event, you need to assess a horse’s performance in events that fit the bill. On that note, she has previously won a long-distance event at Randwick, which was ‘The Metropolitan’ – a race that is 2,400m in length.
Then when you look at the most recent long-distance results, a 4th place finish at the prestigious Caulfield Cup in October 2022 is highly respectable. In fact, the winner of this race was Durston, who won’t be running in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. So if you worked the math from this, you’d assume that a top-three finish is definitely on the cards for this horse. As you can also see, the pre-race odds for Montefilia to win the race are 11.00, which shows high value for this market.
Trifecta – Deauville Legend, Without a Fight, Montefilia
If you were feeling somewhat more adventurous for your bets on the Melbourne Cup, you may want to consider a trifecta wager. Just to clarify, a trifecta requires that you choose the top three finishers in the exact order. Naturally, with a field of 24 horses taking to the track, this makes the trifecta market incredibly difficult indeed. But then again, ‘difficult’ doesn’t stop us from making some Melbourne Cup tips for this specialty market. And our prediction for the trifecta is Deauville Legend, Without a Fight, followed by Montefilia.
You’ve already seen the reasons for our winner and place predictions for both Deauville Legend and Montefilia. However, we haven’t yet talked about Without a Fight. This horse goes into the race on Tuesday in sensational form, to be perfectly honest. The horse has won two long-distance events back to back earlier in the season – two events at York in June and July, respectively. He also came 2nd in Newmarket back in September, so this is a good run of form that justifies a probable second-place finish in the Melbourne Cup.
Reasons to follow our Melbourne Cup Tips
At the end of the day, we could produce a bunch of tips for the Melbourne Cup, as any site could do. However, this presents the problem of whether you should trust the tips or take them seriously. On that note, we believe that you can trust and use our tips to back some great markets for the Melbourne Cup. To stress why that is the case, we’d like to point you to the three reasons shown below:
Thoroughly researched
As you can hopefully tell from reading through the predictions shared above, we have conducted a great deal of research before supplying these tips. We’ve looked at the recent form for a range of horses, while also assessing how they have performed in long-distance events. Not only that, but we’ve even taken into account who the jockeys are for the horses, and factored this into our tips as well.
Chosen based on odds value
When it comes to horse racing betting, there is something that we see all too often. Many sites simply provide a prediction on the horse with the lowest odds out there, but this doesn’t always give you any value. Sure, we have chosen Deauville Legend as our outright winner, but the odds are 3.50 – showing a much better return than favoured horses for other events. As for the other two predictions, we’ve listed these as we believe that they also show good value.
Expert tips on ‘most likely’ outcomes
Here’s the thing about predictions, in case you didn’t know this already (unlikely). They can only be produced based on a series of indicators, which we have taken into account here. However, it’s impossible to give any predictions with a 100% degree of certainty, as horse racing events are unpredictable. Therefore, we’d like to point out that our tips have been given based on the most likely outcomes for the mentioned markets. These tips are not guaranteed to pull through on race day.
Where to follow through on these Melbourne Cup Tips
The most important part of this breakdown of several tips for the Melbourne Cup is where you should be backing them. And on that note, we have three bookmakers that we suggest using for your wagers:
Bet365
The first of the three bookmakers is bet365 – a brand with a sensational mobile app, great odds for horse racing, and many top features. By registering with bet365 you can also get your hands on five free bets. This means that you could cover all of our Melbourne Cup tips without technically using your real money balance. Pretty cool, right?
Unibet
Unibet is another leading bookmaker in the world of horse racing betting. These guys are offering a slightly different welcome bonus for those wishing to wager on the Melbourne Cup. Instead of securing free bets, you can make a wager of up to £40 with the promise of a refund if your bet loses. This applies to just one market, so we’d advise sticking with the first two tips for this offer.
Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes is the last bookmaker we recommend joining to bet on the Melbourne Cup. These guys always have great odds for top events, and you can even perform a manual odds boost if you like. Adding to the appeal of Ladbrokes, you can secure £20 in free bets immediately after joining. This provides you with four sets of £5 free bets, which means you can cover 4x markets – essentially for free.
