It’s an action packed Saturday in the world of horse racing, with some excellent racing on both the flat and over the jumps. There’s a high-quality meeting at Newbury, plus the Scottish Grand National meeting at Ayr, which features several top races, so we’ve put together a Lucky 15 for those punters who want to have a little dabble.
Lucky 15 Tips
Contents
Here are four horses that may just be worth putting together in a Lucky 15 ahead of today’s excellent action:
1:50 Ayr – Sail Away (6/1)
City Chief is quite strongly fancied in the early betting, but that runner has a new handicap mark to deal with, one that means he’ll have to give away an awful lot of weight. If anyone can take advantage of that it could be Dan Skelton’s Sail Away, who warmed up with a decent showing over shorter at Chepstow recently and who looked like a good sort when winning well at Warwick prior to that. For a top handicap trainer, the unexposed and lightly raced seven-year-old, who we shouldn’t forget finished second to Corach Rambler as a hurdler, is fancied to land his biggest success yet.
14:25 Ayr – Colonel Mustard
Second to the impressive El Fabiolo over fences, Colonel Mustard got back down to business over the small obstacles with a pleasing second at Kelso last time out. He stayed on well in the closing stages and now if he strips fitter for that reappearance, which he really ought to, then he’s got a big chance of going one better here. This race has less depth and he’s got leading claims, that’s for sure.
14:40 Newbury – Chaldean (4/5)
Andrew Balding’s Chaldean is very much the one to beat in the Greenham Stakes, so much so that it would be a big surprise if he didn’t get the job done. The winner of each of his last four races, this colt has looked high-class, especially when scoring in Group 1 company when last seen. He’s the highest rated horse in the field by some margin and the three-year-old is backed to return to action with a bang by leading them a merry dance over Newbury’s straight seven furlongs.
15:00 Ayr – Balco Coastal (9/4)
Nicky Henderson’s Balco Coastal didn’t get on with Cheltenham last time out, but he’ll take some beating if he returns to the form that saw him finish second behind Gerri Colombe at Sandown back in February. Before that, he looked like an exciting chaser when winning by a wide margin at Kempton. That form seemingly gives him clear claims here. This race lacks depth and it’s not hard to see that he’s the best horse in the line-up, so don’t be surprised if he confirms superiority.
A £1 Lucky 15 bet on the above four horses (£15 total stake) pays £627.22
