Jaeger-Lecoultre Molcombe Stakes 2023 Betting Tips and Predictions

The showpiece event on the card of day two at Glorious Goodwood, in terms of class at least, is the Qatar Sussex Stakes, but before we get to that, we have the Jaeger-Lecoultre Molcombe Stakes, a Group 3 affair, which looks much more interesting from a betting perspective.

A Group 3 contest, the Jaeger-Lecoultre Molcombe Stakes is run over a stiff five furlongs, which on soft ground will be very testing for these speedsters. There’s only eight runners due to go to post, but it’s very competitive and finding the winner be anything but easy here.

Our Betting Tips and Predictions for the Jaeger-Lecoultre Molcombe Stakes

Prior to this tricky little Group 3 race taking place, here are our best race predictions and betting tips:

Our Best Prediction: Big Evs @ 5/2

Under top man Ryan Moore, Kylian is likely to have a big say here, one way or another. For premier two-year-old trainer Karl Burke, this colt impressed when winning at Newcastle on his third start, before hinting at being very useful when skipping clear in Listed company last time out. That performance was very striking and is not to be taken lightly.

However, Big Evs is hard to go against as far as I’m concerned. She could not have won a more competitive race at Royal Ascot, leading her 19 rivals in the Windsor Castle Stakes a merry dance, winning by a comfortable three lengths. That was just her second start, so it’s not unreasonable to think she could have plenty more to offer, and in truth, winning this ought not to take much more than a repeat. The form of her Ascot win has worked out well too, what with several of those to finish in behind her going on to win since.

Our Each Way Prediction: Shagraan (each-way) @ 14/1

If you prefer to go each-way, then there are a few options here, providing that all eight go to post thus maintaining the three places. The best option in that respect may be Shagraan.

Clive Cox’s runner has been progressing nicely. He won well on just his second start, coming readily clear at Windsor, before finishing well for second in Listed company last time out at Newbury, beating a couple of decent types in the process. He looked to be all about speed on that occasion, so this drop back to the minimum trip should suit the colt, who looks one of more likelier types should the top two in the market fail to fire.
