The 2000 Guineas Stakes is scheduled for 16:40 today, and there is a packed field of talented horses ready to compete. Of course, it’s an enormous Grade 1 Stakes event, and the prestige of the race speaks for itself. And when it comes to the favourites to take the win in this race, the horse that leads the pack is Auguste Rodin. This horse has been nothing short of phenomenal in his short racing career, hence the stacked odds that he currently has for the 2022 Guineas Stakes.
With that said, Auguste Rodin hasn’t raced in 2023, so when it comes to recent form, there isn’t too much to work with. However, if you look at the end of his 2022 season, to say that his results were impressive would be a drastic understatement. So without further ado, since the goal here is to address the Auguste Rodin odds, I’d like to run through why they are like this and whether he can realistically win the 2000 Guineas Stakes today.
Auguste Rodin Odds – 2/1 to Win the Guineas Stakes
Contents
As you can see from the price mentioned here, Auguste Rodin is a heavy favourite to win the prestigious race this afternoon. But what is fueling the incredibly short price on this horse and are the odds justified? Let me address those points right now, starting with why the odds are at 2/1 on this horse.
Two Wins at G1 and G2 Levels Since September 2022
As I stressed earlier, Auguste Rodin hasn’t been super active over the last 6-8 months. In fact, he has competed in just two races since September last year. However, he stormed to victory in both of these races, with the first win coming at a G2 in Leopardstown on September 10th. This was obviously exciting as it was the first time that Auguste Rodin had raced at this level.
Yet to prove this wasn’t a fluke, he went on to secure a huge victory at Doncaster in October – a G1 event. He tore apart the 8-horse field to record an impressive win with R L Moore in the saddle, and now he is set to compete in another G1.
A Prolific Short-Distance Runner
If you look at the distance for both of these races, they were both around the 1-mile mark. And since the 2000 Guineas Stakes is also a 1-mile race, it goes without saying that Auguste Rodin is suited for the course. He has serious speed when it comes to the closing stages of such races too, which is obviously a big positive.
Worth Taking the Current Auguste Rodin Odds?
Given that this horse has won 3 of his 4 races, including the two wins at G2 and G1 levels most recently, how could anyone not find this market appealing? I believe that Auguste Rodin will live up to the odds and snap up another win at Newmarket today. And with the price of 2/1, this is still great value considering his true chances of crossing the line in first place.
