2.05 Newbury tips: Course winner can go well

The second race at Newbury on Saturday afternoon sees a bunch of potentially high-class three-year-old fillies get down to business in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes. This Group 3 race will be run over a straight seven furlongs.

Top stables do battle

There should be no shortage of quality on show here, with many of the top stables involves. Bridestones, ridden by last year’s winning jockey William Buick, is an exciting prospect for John Gosden having won well on debut at Yarmouth. She, along with several others, is open to any amount of improvement.

Magical Sunset is another exciting type. For the powerful Richard Hannon yard, she won over course and distance last time, plus scored at Leicester prior to that. She’s looked versatile in terms of ground and has shown a sharp turn of foot, so it not to be discounted. Remarquee for Ralph Beckett is one of the more experienced types and is also one of the likelier winner having won well over course and distance when last seen.

Take the each-way value

However, at bigger odds, I’m going to side with Olivia Maralda, who should certainly have the benefit of experience over a few of years. Now having her first run for Roger Varian, the filly won a course-and-distance maiden in decisive fashion last season, while she was far from disgraced when finishing second in Group 2 company at Curragh next time out. Now returning to the scene of her victory for her new connections, who certainly know how to do well at this venue, she can go well. In a race full of unknowns, if, buts and maybes, it’s worth siding with one at nice each-way odds, especially with four places on offer.

Best Bet: Olivia Maralda each-way @ 12/1
