Scottie Scheffler to finish top 10 @ 1/1 (+100)
The Dallas, Texas, native is on a historic run this campaign. Scheffler has put together seven consecutive top-five finishes and hasn’t finished outside of the top 12 since October 2022 in the season opener at the CJ Cup.
Scheffler’s top 10 finishes
- Events: 19
- Top 10s: 15
- Top 10 percentage: 78.94%
Regardless of whether he’s at a regular tour event or a major, Scheffler still produces when the pressure is on. He’s finished 1oth or better in all three majors this year.
Scheffler’s 2023 major results
- The Masters: 10th
- PGA Championship: T2nd
- U.S. Open: 3rd
Royal Liverpool will provide a stern test with thick rough and elements such as heavy winds and rain. These shouldn’t pose much of a problem for the 26-year-old, with him earning finishes of 21st and eighth in his last two Open starts and a tie for third last week at the Genesis Scottish Open.
The major champion has picked up 1.85 strokes gained on average when playing true links-style courses (22 rounds). Data compiled by analyst Ron Klos actually shows that Scheffler picks up more strokes on average on links courses compared to normal ones.
Scheffler’s notable stats
- Strokes gained total: 1st (2.638)
- SG: Tee-to-green: 1st (2.805)
- SG: Off-the-tee: 1st (1.088)
- SG: Approach the green: 1st (1.257)
- Greens in regulation %: 1st (73.94%)
- Scoring average: 1st (68.13)
- Total Driving: 3rd (58)
- Scrambling from the rough: 6th (65.63%)
The one category where Scheffler has struggled is with the flat stick, but it hasn’t held him back from winning twice this season and contending week in and week out.
Professionals struggle all the time and can be inconsistent, but Scheffler has proven this season he can be counted on practically every week to finish inside the top 10. With Bet365 providing even money odds, it’s hard to find a safer bet with a great price for this week’s Open.
Scottie Scheffler’s season is on pace to have:
• Lowest scoring average (68.13) since 2009 Tiger Woods
• Most strokes gained (+2.64) since 2009 Tiger Woods
• Most strokes gained tee to green (+2.81) since 2006 Tiger Woods
• Lowest bogey rate (10.1%) since 2000 Tiger Woods— Patrick McDonald (@AmateurStatus) July 18, 2023

Tyrrell Hatton to finish top 30 @ 2/3 (-150)
For U.K. readers, the 2/3 (-150) odds provided by Bet365 are the best that can be found. For U.S. readers, Hatton is available at a line of 5/7 (-140) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
The Englishman has been one of the hottest golfers on tour this year, and it’s surprising he hasn’t won anything yet in 2023. Hatton has earned top 30 finishes in eight consecutive events dating back to the RBC Heritage in mid-April. Only one of those finishes came outside the top 20 (T27 at the U.S. Open).
If you fancy him at 11/10 (+110) for a top-20 finish, that might be worth a bet, but it is riskier because majors contain better fields with some of the world’s best coming from LIV, which does make it a bit more challenging to finish inside the top 20.
Hatton’s top 30 finishes
- Events: 16
- Top 30s: 12
- Top 30 percentage: 75%
Obviously, with Hatton being English, he has great experience on links courses, and according to Ron Klos, he’s played 113 rounds on such tracks since 2015 and is picking up an impressive average of 1.74 strokes gained per round. For reference, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have picked up just 0.11 more on average.
The 31-year-old also has played well at the Open Championship with two top 11s in two of his last three starts at the event (T11 in 2022 and T6 in 2019). He’s also finished inside the top 30 in four of the last six majors.
Driving the ball well this week will be extremely important, and the High Wycombe, England native ranks 10th in strokes gained off the tee (0.634) and 17th in total driving (124). Hatton possesses every tool, which can be seen below in his stats.
Hatton’s notable stats
- Strokes gained total: 3rd (2.091)
- SG: Tee-to-green: 9th (1.361)
- SG: Off-the-tee: 10th (0.634)
- SG: Putting: 6th (0.730)
- Total Putting: 4th (62.3)
- SG: Approach the green: 14th (0.606)
- Scoring average: 6th (69.301)
- Total Driving: 17th (124)
- Scrambling: 19th (64.25%)
