Lee Hodges holds the solo lead at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota, after an impressive 7-under round of 64 on Friday to put him at 15-under for the tournament.
Trailing the University of Alabama product is Tyler Duncan at 11-under, followed by last year’s champion Tony Finau, J.T. Poston, Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Streelman (all 10-under).
A weather delay that lasted for about two hours resulted in seven players being unable to finish their second rounds. The cut line, which we’ll discuss later in this article, should be unaffected, with the remaining golfers having just one or two holes left to play.
We’ll go into detail regarding a few tournament favorites who failed to reach the weekend and share who successfully made it.
What is the cut at the 3M Open?
Contents
The cut line at the 3M Open is set at 4-under par. The line was at 2-under earlier in the day, but after many players posted low numbers, it moved two strokes.
3M Open Cut Rule
The top 65 players and ties advance to rounds three and four after the cut is set after the first 36 holes.
Who missed the cut?
The following notable players failed to make the cut.
Cameron Young (2-under), Justin Thomas (2-under), Sungjae Im (2-under), Sahith Theegala (3-under), Adam Hadwin (3-under), Lucas Glover (3-under), Mark Hubbard (1-under), Sepp Straka (even), Chez Reavie (1-over), Austin Eckroat (1-over), Gary Woodland (3-over) and Ryan Fox (5-over)
Cameron Young
The highest-ranked player (No. 15) in the field couldn’t get things going after impressive performances at the John Deere Classic (T6) and the Open Championship (T8).
Rounds of 71 and 69 weren’t enough for Young, who is still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour.
Sungjae Im
The 27th-ranked player in the world came into the tournament as a favorite, along with Young at 14/1 to 16/1 to win, depending on the oddsmaker. Im’s 1-under score through two days fell well short of the 4-under cut line.
Justin Thomas
The two-time major winner is having a subpar season by his standards. Thomas missed the cut by two strokes after shooting 69 and 71 during the first two days. If he wants to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Thomas will need to put up a strong showing at the Wyndham Championship the following week.
Thomas was ranked 78th going into the 3M Open in the FedEx Cup Standings (top 70 qualify). The University of Alabama graduate hasn’t won since the PGA Championship in 2022 and has missed the cut in five of his previous seven appearances.
Who made the cut?
A total of 70 players made the cut, with seven players set to finish up their rounds on Saturday morning.
Augusto Nunez, Kevin Tway and S.Y. Noh currently have one hole left to play in their second rounds. Nunez is one shot clear of the line at 5-under while Tway and Noh are right on it at 4-under.
Scott Harrington is 3-under with two holes remaining and needs at least one birdie to qualify for rounds three and four.
Trevor Werbylo (even) has the 18th left to play but will miss the cut. Thomas Lehman, the son of renowned golfer Tom Lehman, is 3-over par with the 18th coming up but is mathematically eliminated from making the cut.
