Red Bull is going to be hoping for another great weekend to secure their Constructors’ Championship, right after Verstappen snapped up his second World Championship title in Japan last weekend. Mercedes has been dominating the Constructors’ World Championship since 2014, so Red Bull have a huge shot at breaking that streak!
Last year’s performance also favors Red Bull, as in 2021, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen battled it out with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and ended up winning the race for Red Bull.
Why is the United States Grand Prix special?
The ‘Circuit of Americas’ was first proposed in 2010, and officially opened on October 21st, 2012. It was designed by Hermann Tilke alongside KHS, an American architectural firm.It had a rocky start, with multiple setbacks. But the wait was worth it when 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti launched the track on October 21, 2012.
100,000 people filled up the circuit and witnessed Lewis Hamilton win for the last time in a McLaren, before he moved to Mercedes.
Few courses in the sport deliver better wheel-to-wheel racing than Circuit of the Americas (COTA), which features little over three miles of elevation variation, tight turns, sweeping portions, and plenty of overtaking opportunities.
United States Grand Prix Best Moments
The United States Grand Prix not only has one of the best tracks on the calendar, but it also has one of the best atmospheres.
There are always thousands of dedicated fans packing the grandstands each year. In 2021, there were 400,000 fans ready to watch yet another exciting race.
This amazing track with its buzzing atmosphere has had some spectacular moments. Here’s a few that stand out:
In the first ever race, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel waged a fierce struggle for victory, with the Brit coming out on top.
The last-lap drama was also nail-biting in 2017, when Max Verstappen made an opportunistic but illegal move on Kimi Raikkonen to take third, before being penalised five seconds for cutting the corner.
The most memorable race was arguably in 2015, when Hamilton won his third World Championship after passing teammate Nico Rosberg late in the race, due to the German’s mistake.
