F1 is finally back in Suzuka, after 3 long years of waiting due to pandemic delays. The Japan Grand Prix 2022 will take place on Sunday, October 9. It promises to be another thrilling race on the 5.807-kilometre Suzuka International Racing Course. Verstappen’s chance of grabbing that World Champion title this weekend makes this race even more exciting, after missing his chance for a swift win last week.

Formula 1 today: what’s happened so far?
Practice 1
In the first practice session, Fernando Alonso came first with an amazing 1:42:248 lap, the fastest out of everyone.
Practice 2
Despite Mercedes having a tough time last week, they managed to have a great second practice, with Russell coming in at the top and Hamilton right behind him with a 0.235s gap.
In the second practice session, Max Verstappen finished in third place – just a little faster than his Red Bull teammate, Perez. Better Perez than Verstappen’s biggest rival, Leclerc. The Monacan driver finished in 11th place.
Why is the Japan Grand Prix special?
Remember, Verstappen can win the world championship in this Grand Prix. Verstappen needs to outscore Leclerc by eight points and Perez by six points, and he will be crowned World Champion. A two-time World Champion at that.
Verstappen is so far ahead of his competition, that it’s not a matter of if he wins, but of when he wins, and the Japan Grand Prix will determine whether Verstappen will become World Champion this weekend, or later this month. The F1 betting odds do seem in his favour.

What’s the weather like for the Japan Grand Prix 2022?
The Japan Grand Prix is going to see a mixture of weather, so the drivers will need to be prepared for a wild weekend!
Friday is a wet day, so the practices are going to be slippery. Drivers have been familiarising themselves with the wet track over their two practice sessions today.
Saturday looks like it’s going to be the best day of the weekend, with clear skies, sunshine and dry tarmac. So we can expect to see drivers at their peak during the qualifying session, which will have a huge impact on the outcome of the Japan Grand Prix, and on when Verstappen will finally get to wear his championship crown.
Sunday, however, is not looking great. It’s very likely that it will be raining at the Japan Grand Prix start time, although we’re not expecting heavy rain or showers.
The Japan Grand Prix Drivers are in for a rollercoaster of different weather conditions this weekend.
