Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

The SCG was the venue which saw the most runs, including two centuries, during the T20 World Cup in November. It has continued to be a batter-friendly surface in BBL12 and we saw 268 runs in a rain-reduced 14-over per side game earlier in the tournament. Expect a quick surface and a fast outfield for this contest.

The forecast is for a warm and sunny day in Sydney with the temperature remaining in the mid 20s throughout this game. Humidity levels will rise the longer the game continues.

Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers – Match Predictions

Both teams come into this game in exceptional form in Big Bash League 2022/23. Sydney Sixers have won six, lost one and had one no-result from their last eight matches. Perth Scorchers have a marginally better record with seven wins and one defeat from their last eight. However, it is the Scorchers who have been dominating their opponents and have won their last three games by margins of nine wickets, eight wickets and seven wickets. We expect them to maintain their winning streak in this game.

Probable 6s

Although both teams had convincing victories in their last games, Sydney Sixers hit zero sixes from their 16.2 overs with the bat whereas Perth Scorchers hit four maximums from their 12.5 overs. The figure for the Scorchers was all the more impressive as Josh Inglis, who has hit 13 sixes in the tournament, and Ashton Turner, who has hit 10, did not get a chance to bat.

Our prediction: Perth Scorchers to Hit Most Sixes 4/7 (1.57)

Probable Wickets

Sean Abbott, the leading wicket taker in BBL history, comes into this game in top form. He took 3-31 against Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Match 31 before producing even better figures of 3-9 from four overs at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Sunday. He is the top BBL wicket taker at the SCG with 56 dismissals coming at a strike-rate of 12.45.

Our prediction: Sean Abbott to Be the Highest Wicket Taker for Sydney Sixers 11/4 (3.75)

Man of the Match

With both teams delivering so many exceptional performances over recent games, there are plenty of candidates to be the best player at the SCG in this match. Perth Scorchers’ Andrew Tye has taken seven wickets from his last three games but we are backing his team-mate, opener Cameron Bancroft who has scored 55 not out and 76 not out across his last three innings, to take the award.

Our prediction: Cameron Bancroft to Be the Man of the Match 9/1 (10.00)

Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Preview

The teams met four times in BBL11 with Perth Scorchers coming out on top in each game including a 79 run win in the final. The Sixers lost by 38 runs in Match 6 of BBL12 at the Perth Stadium and have been beaten in each of the last five head to head fixtures.

Sydney Sixers

Irrespective of the format, any team would benefit from the likes of Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon coming back into the squad. We expect Smith to replace James Vince at the top of the order with the English batter having joined up with Gulf Giants in the ILT20.

Sydney Sixers’ bowlers were on form in the last game with none of the five used in the bowling attack going wicketless. Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis have 90 BBL wickets between them at the SCG.

Playing XI: Josh Philippe (wk), Steve Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk (c), Dan Christian, Hayden Kerr, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Chris Jordan, Nathan Lyon

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers handed a debut to England white-ball international left-arm pace bowler David Payne in Match 39. He got a wicket with his second delivery and will enjoy the speed and bounce of the SCG wicket.

We expect the Scorchers batting line-up to be unchanged ahead of this match which means that Stephen Eskinazi and Cameron Bancroft will target their second half-century opening partnership in three days in Sydney.

Playing XI: Stephen Eskinazi, Cameron Bancroft, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis (wk), Ashton Turner (c), Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, David Payne, Lance Morris
