Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds – BBL 2022-23

As the group stage of the 2022-23 Big Bash League starts to draw to a close, Sydney Sixers host Adelaide Strikers. The Sixers beat top of the table Perth Scorchers on Sunday and with odds of 4/6 (1.67) are favourites to win this match. Here are our Big Bash predictions ahead of this game:

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

  • Match 45, BBL 2022-23
  • Tuesday January 17th, from 08:15 AM GMT
  • International Sports Stadium, Coffs Harbour

Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

There is not as much pace in this pitch compared to other venues like the Sydney Cricket Ground or the Adelaide Oval. As a result, free-scoring may be a little harder but the pace bowlers should find some assistance from the pitch.

We expect humid conditions in Coffs Harbour with the sun struggling to get through the thick cloud. The temperature will be no higher than 23 degrees.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers – Match Predictions

Ahead of this match, five points separate these teams in the Big Bash League 2022/23  with Sydney Sixers in second place and Adelaide Strikers in fourth. The Sixers are targeting their fourth successive win whereas the Strikers are looking to avoid their third straight defeat. Furthermore, the Strikers have lost the services of Chris Lynn for the rest of the tournament and his 416 runs at a strike-rate of 141.01 will be near-impossible to replace.

Probable 6s

Both of Sydney Sixers’ openers, Josh Philippe and Steve Smith, hit sixes in their win over Perth Scorchers in Match 43 with lower-middle order batter Ben Dwarshuis also clearing the ropes on one occasion. Adelaide Strikers do have some big-hitting players but their bowling attack is also prone to conceding high scores including plenty of boundaries. We expect Sydney Sixers to lead on the sixes count in this match.

Our prediction: Sydney Sixers to Hit Most Sixes 6/5 (2.20)

Probable Wickets

There is no bowler in a hotter streak of form in the tournament than Sydney Sixers’ Sean Abbott. He has taken three wickets in each of the last three games and has combined figures of 9-58 from those matches. He dismissed two of Perth Scorchers’ top three before, unsurprisingly, taking home the Player of the Match award. Abbott is one dismissal away from being the top wicket taker in BBL12.

Our prediction: Sean Abbott to Be the Highest Wicket Taker for Sydney Sixers 11/4 (3.75)

Man of the Match

The wicket taking exploits of Sean Abbott have seen him awarded the Player of the Match in the last two games and it is very hard to look beyond him not picking up the same award in this game. Adelaide Strikers’ Matthew Short is the leading run-scorer in the tournament and should be considered but he tends to make consistent contributions rather than match-winning scores. Wes Agar has also taken regular wickets but does not have the accuracy of Abbott.

Our prediction: Sean Abbott to Be the Man of the Match 14/1 (15.00)

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Preview

Although Adelaide Strikers thrashed Sydney Sixers by 51 runs in Match 2, the Sixers have lost only two more matches across the competition. The Strikers are in poor form and have lost three of their last five games against the Sixers.

Sydney Sixers

Steve Smith came into the side and hit 36 runs from 27 balls at the top of the order against Perth Scorchers. But of more importance, was the 54 runs from his opening partner, Josh Philippe, who has struggled for form this season. A glut of runs from Philippe at this stage of the season could take the Sixers all the way to the BBL title.

We expect pace and spin bowlers to play a role on this pitch, which means the likes of Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe should be able to back up Sean Abbott and Hayden Kerr.

Playing XI: Josh Philippe (wk), Steve Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk, Dan Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Hayden Kerr, Sean Abbott, Nathan Lyon, Steve O’Keefe

Adelaide Strikers

With Chris Lynn heading off to the UAE for the ILT20, we expect Henry Hunt to take his place in the top three. Travis Head and Alex Carey scored three runs between them in their first BBL game of the season on Saturday and their team need them both to immediately get up to the pace of T20 cricket.

Wes Agar should be able to cause problems on this pitch although we expect him to go for runs as well as to pick up wickets. Harry Conway took his best figures of the season, 3-36, in the last match.

Playing XI: Travis Head (c), Matthew Short, Henry Hunt, Alex Carey (wk), Adam Hose, Colin de Grandhomme, Benjamin Manenti, Cameron Boyce, Wes Agar, Harry Conway, Peter Siddle
