India vs New Zealand Prediction and Odds: First T20

Over the past ten days, India have steamrolled New Zealand in a tough ODI series for the Kiwis. India have been scoring runs at a prolific rate, and while the Black Caps haven’t been bad, they also haven’t been good enough to threaten India just yet. They’ll be hoping that changes in the upcoming T20 series, with the first of three matches being played this Friday night. We break down all the best bets to be made on this game in our India vs New Zealand first T20 preview.

These odds from William Hill were correct at the time of writing.

India vs New Zealand – Match Prediction

Here at Pundit Feed, we pride ourselves on making great cricket predictions. Here are the top two we recommend taking on the India vs New Zealand first T20.

India to Win @ 2/5 (1.40)

There’s no denying that India are running hot in white ball cricket right now. Since losing their second ODI to Bangladesh and the series in early December, they’ve won eight out of nine. Not only have they been winning, but it’s how they’ve been winning—scoring an average of 381 runs in their last five white ball matches batting first.

With New Zealand light on senior players, and having just lost comprehensively to a similar squad in last week’s ODI series, it’s hard to see this match going any other way than an India win.

Shubman Gill to Be India’s Top Run Scorer @ 7/2 (4.50)

Shubman Gill is in fine form right now. The 23-year-old’s past four white ball innings have seen the opener walk away with scores of 116, 208, 40* and 112. Despite this, Gill’s place in the side is far from certain, with Prithvi Shaw knocking on the door and Ruturaj Gaikwad a threat as well when he’s healthy. Expect Gill to keep the foot on the gas and score big here to solidify his position.

India vs New Zealand Preview

With these two bets in mind, here’s a look at how each of these sides are shaping up ahead of the first T20 on Friday:

India

Leadership changes hands for India this week, as Hardik Pandya will again lead the side in this T20 series. India will also be looking for some continuity in their opening batsmen, and will be eager to see if Ishan Kishan can back up from his excellent double century recently to become a realistic option ahead of the World Cup.

India predicted XI: 1 Shubman Gill, 2 Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), 3 Rahul Tripathi, 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Hardik Pandya (captain), 6 Deepak Hooda, 7 Washington Sundar, 8 Shivam Mavi, 9 Umran Malik, 10 Arshdeep Singh and 11 Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal

New Zealand

For the Kiwis, again Kane Williamson and Tim Southee will be absent, with Mitchell Santner captaining the side. The Black Caps will be desperate for Finn Allen to find some form, and he may well be the missing piece in their lack of results recently. Left-arm fast bowler Ben Lister is also likely to debut in this match.

New Zealand predicted XI: 1 Finn Allen, 2 Devon Conway (wicketkeeper), 3 Mark Chapman, 4 Glenn Phillips, 5 Daryl Mitchell, 6 Michael Bracewell, 7 Mitchell Santner (captain), 8 Blair Tickner, 9 Ish Sodhi, 10 Ben Lister, 11 Lockie Ferguson

India vs New Zealand Head to Head

India lead the sides’ head to head 12-9, and while the last fixture between the two was tied in November 2022.
