Pitch Report and Weather Conditions
Contents
In the last BBL game at the Gabba, the pitch delivered 433 runs with Sydney Sixers only able to make 209 in reply to Brisbane Heat’s 224-5. We expect another quick surface and more runs on a batter friendly wicket.
In sunny conditions, the temperature will be 24 degrees at the start of the game. By the end, the forecast is for a drop to 20 degrees with humidity levels above 70%.
Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers – Match Predictions
Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne’s return to Brisbane Heat will offset the loss of top-scorer Colin Munro’s runs and should make them more competitive. However, Perth Scorchers have won nine of their last 11 BBL matches and we expect to see them come out on top at the Gabba.
Prediction 1
Heat To Hit Most Sixes
11/8 (2.38)
Prediction 2
Tye To Take Most Wickets for Scorchers
5/2 (3.50)
Prediction 3
Bancroft to be Man of the Match
9/1 (10.00)
Probable 6s
Since coming into the team four games ago, Josh Brown has caught the eye at the top of the order for Brisbane Heat. He has hit 10 sixes with his 109 runs coming at a strike-rate of 181.66. Ashton Turner and Josh Inglis are both capable six hitters but we expect Brisbane Heat to send the ball over the boundary the most times in this match.
Our Prediction: Brisbane Heat to Hit Most Sixes 11/8 (2.38)
Probable Wickets
Pace bowlers Michael Neser and Mark Steketee have both found taking wickets particularly easy at the Gabba in the 2022-23 BBL. Between them they have 11 wickets from two matches and will definitely be dangerous again in this match. This is great news for Perth Scorchers’ Andrew Tye. He will enjoy the pace of this pitch and comes into this game only one dismissal away from going top of the wicket takers list for this campaign.
Our Prediction: Andrew Tye to Be the Highest Wicket Taker for Perth Scorchers (5/2 – 3.50)
Man of the Match
Cameron Bancroft has benefited from the departure of Adam Lyth and Faf du Plessis at the top of the order for Perth Scorchers. He has grasped the opportunity with both hands and took the Man of the Match award with 76 not out from 48 balls against the same Brisbane Heat bowling attack who he will face in this match. Bancroft also has good memories of the Gabba as this is where he hit 82 not-out, which remains his highest Test score, on his debut in the 2017-18 Ashes.
Our Prediction: Cameron Bancroft to Be the Man of the Match (9/1 – 10.00)
Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview
Both sides have seen plenty of changes to their teams and squads over recent games. With more players leaving the BBL to play in tournaments in the UAE and South Africa, and Australia’s Test players available again, there will be changes for Heat and the Scorchers.
Brisbane Heat
Seventh placed Brisbane Heat welcome back three players who were in action at the SCG during the Australia v South Africa Third Test. Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw will come back into the team with the BBL 12 stints of Sam Billings and Colin Munro now over.
Strong individual performances have not been hard to find for Brisbane Heat, but getting the team to play well together on a consistent basis has been their biggest challenge in this BBL season.
Playing XI: Josh Brown, Usman Khawaja (c), Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Nathan McSweeney, Jimmy Peirson (wk), Ross Whiteley, Michael Neser, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Kuhnemann
Perth Scorchers
After international duty, all-rounders Cameron Green and Ashton Agar come into the Scorchers XI for this match and for Green this will be his first BBL appearance of the season. Both players are very talented batters and there will be runs all the way through the Scorchers side.
Jhye Richardson’s hamstring injury will keep him out of the team for another week but Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff will make for a strong pace bowling duo in this game.
Playing XI: Steve Eskinazi, Cameron Bancroft, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis (wk), Ashton Turner (c), Cameron Green, Ashton Agar, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris
