Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers – Betting Picks and Tips
Contents
As far as historical head to head record is concerned, Adelaide Strikers have enjoyed a slight edge over Brisbane Heat. They have faced each other in 16 games, of which the Strikers have won 9 while Brisbane Heat have been victorious on 7 instances. Adelaide Strikers have tasted great success at the Gabba, winning six out of eight matches versus the Heat. Given these factors and their current form, our betting prediction for this match would be for Adelaide Strikers to win.
There will be some key players in action in this match from both sides. Chris Lynn, who has been a Brisbane Heat legend for years, will be turning up for Adelaide Strikers this season. The Strikers also have other top players such as Matthew Short, Adam Hose, Henry Thornton and Rashid Khan. Brisbane Heat have Colin Munro, Sam Billings, Jimmy Peirson and Mitch Swepson.
Matthew Short has scored 493 runs in the previous edition of the BBL and he has started this campaign with two fifties in three games. You can back him to be the top batter for Adelaide Strikers. Chris Lynn is another top option to bet in this fixture. The right hander has scored over 1100 runs at the Gabba at 36 average and 166 strike rate.
Henry Thornton has been in terrific form, picking 4/20, 5/2 and 2/18 in three matches so far. The fast bowler should enjoy the surface at this venue and you can back him to be the top bowler for the Strikers.
Jimmy Peirson has smashed 43 off 30 and 45 off 30 in the first two games. Although he bats down at number five, given their top order hasn’t been in great form, you can bet on him. Michael Neser was magnificent with the new ball in the previous game and if there’s any movement on offer, he can trouble the Adelaide top order.
Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers Preview
The guests had a much better start to the season in BBL, but let’s take a closer look at both teams ahead of their duel:
Brisbane Heat Preview
Brisbane Heat have played two matches in the ongoing BBL season – both versus Melbourne Renegades and have lost both. They fell 22 runs short in the first game at Cairns and were then defeated by four wickets in Geelong.
Jimmy Peirson was the star in the batting unit yet again, scoring an unbeaten 45 off 30 to propel the total a fighting 137/8. Michael Neser then bowled incredibly well, snaring four wickets in his first eight balls, including a hat-trick. But Brisbane had no answers to Andre Russell who took the game away with a rapid fifty.
The return of Matt Renshaw has strengthened the batting unit of Brisbane Heat. Jimmy Peirson has shown good form with the bat but the likes of Colin Munro, Sam Billings and Max Bryant need to step up. Michael Neser was exceptional with the ball in the previous game and will be available for this game as well. James Bazley and Mark Steketee are other pace options while Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann handle spin responsibility.
Apart from the new ball threat of Neser, their pace bowling unit doesn’t inspire confidence and can be taken apart. The batting unit also looks pretty light with Jimmy Peirson only in-form batter.
Squad: Max Bryant, Colin Munro, Matt Renshaw, Sam Billings, Jimmy Peirson (c/wk), Ross Whiteley, James Bazley, Mark Steketee, Michael Neser, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Kuhnemann
Adelaide Strikers Preview
Adelaide Strikers have had an incredible start to their campaign with three back to back victories and all of those pretty comprehensive. They hammered Sydney Sixers by 51 runs in the first game and then did a double over Sydney Thunder.
Henry Thornton continued his great form, picking 2 for 18 in three overs as they restricted Sydney Thunder to 150. Matthew Short then blasted 65 off 44 to help his chase down the target with eight balls to spare.
Adelaide Strikers have Jake Weatherald and Matthew Short at the top, with the latter being in terrific form. The middle order of Chris Lynn, Adam Hose and Colin de Grandhomme offers good power-hitting. Their bowling attack has been in sensational form and had recently shot Sydney Thunder for a record 15 all-out. Henry Thornton, in particular, has been lethal and supported well by Rashid Khan, Wes Agar and Peter Siddle.
As mentioned, the bowling attack is Adelaide Strikers’ biggest strength. The combination of pace, movement, variations and quality wrist spin is ideal. Their batting, however, can be exposed when Matthew Short doesn’t fire.
Squad: Jake Weatherald, Matthew Short, Chris Lynn, Adam Hose, Colin de Grandhomme, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen (wk), Rashid Khan, Wes Agar, Henry Thornton, Peter Siddle (c).
Pitch and Weather Conditions

The number in the last couple of years stands at 174 and 161.
As for the weather, the early forecast suggests it could be cloudy out there in Brisbane on Friday evening but there’s no big threat of rain. The match should be completed without any interruption. There’s around a 25% chance of precipitation with the temperature likely to hover around 22°C.
