Italy vs France Prediction and Odds: Six Nations

Rounding out Round 1 of the Six Nations, France will head to Rome to take on Italy in the final match of the weekend. Bookies are expecting this to be the least competitive match of the three, with France heavy favourites to win. However, there’s still plenty of great betting to be had on this match, which we outline below in our Italy vs France betting preview.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Italy vs France – Match Prediction

Here at Pundit Feed, we love our rugby predictions. These are the best two wagers we suggest taking on this match:

France to Win By 21-30 @ 5/2 (3.50)

Last Six Nations, France finished top of the table, winning each of their five matches and completing the Grand Slam. Italy, on the other hand, managed a solitary win and were handed the wooden spoon, yet again—the 17th time since 2000 that they’ve finished the competition in last place.

This speaks to the disparity between these two teams, not to mention the fact that France are No.2 and Italy are No.12 in the world. While Italy have been improving, and have every chance of being a banana skin for another side in the Six Nations this year, we don’t believe it will be a red-hot France that are looking to win back to back titles for the first time since 2007. Expect a tight opening stanza, before France blow out the final score.

Total Match Points Over 52.5 @ 10/11 (1.91)

As outlined above, France should win this one healthily. The visitors should put at least 40 points on the Azzurri, and as in any high scoring match, there’s a good chance this will open up in the second half and Italy may add a few points of their own. Expect over 52.5 points easily.

Italy vs France Preview

With these two bets in mind, here’s a brief look at how each team is shaping up:

Italy

In 2022, Italy were much improved from previous years. Their Six Nations campaign saw them score a famous win over Wales, while the autumn internationals brought an impressive victory over Australia as well. We’re picking Italy to get another win this Six Nations, just not against France—more likely a repeat over Wales, or even on the road against Scotland.

Italy squad: 15 Capuozzo, 14 Bruno, 13 Brex, 12 Morisi, 11 Menoncello, 10 Allan, 9 Varney, 1 Fischetti, 2 Nicotera, 3 Ferrari, 4 Cannone, 5 Ruzza, 6 Negri, 7 Lamaro (c), 8 Cannone, 16 Bigi, 17 Zani, 18 Ceccarelli, 19 Iachizzi, 20 Pettinelli, 21 Zuliani, 22 Fusco and 23 Edoardo Padovani.

France

Rarely has there been a Six Nations where France enters with such expectation. They clean swept their competition last year, and are staring down the barrel of entering the 2023 Rugby World Cup as the bookies’ favourites. Whether France rise to this pressure or crack under the weight of it remains to be seen, but a team on a 13-match winning streak is unlikely to end it against Italy.

France squad: 15 Ramos, 14 Penaud, 13 Fickou, 12 Moefana, 11 Dumortier, 10 Ntamack, 9 Dupont (c), 1 Baille, 2 Marchand, 3 Atonio, 4 Flament, 5 Willemse, 6 Jelonch, 7 Ollivon, 8 Alldritt, 16 Barlot, 17 Wardi, 18 Falatea, 19 Taofifenua, 20 Lavault, 21 Macalou, 22 Le Garrec and 23 Jalibert.

Italy vs France Head to Head

France leads the head to head between these two sides 39-3. Their last meeting was this time last year, which France won 37-10 in Paris.
