This weekend, the oldest tournament in rugby gets underway. In what is perhaps the most exciting Six Nations competition for a generation, the best six teams in Europe will fight it out for seven weeks, to determine who has the honour of being crowned the Six Nations champion in 2023.
Italy vs France Preview
The final game of this weekend will see France heading to Rome to take on Italy on Sunday afternoon. Bookies are picking this to be the least competitive match of the round, but will we finally see a Six Nations this year where there are no easy games?
France head into the match off the back of a 13-game winning streak, that started back in 2021. They are the defending champions of the Six Nations, having completed the Grand Slam in 2022 and gone through the entire competition undefeated. Now, they are staring down the barrel of a year where they host a World Cup, and are the bookies’ favourites to win it. Will they roll through the Six Nations and maintain momentum, or get put in their place a little by their neighbours at the start of the year?
Italy will hope to be the ones who humble France, but are a long shot. Last year they finished last in the Six Nations, for the 17th time since 2000. However, there were signs of improvement, landing a famous win over Wales, and backing it up later in the year by defeating Australia as well. They’ll have to play out of their skins to beat France on Sunday, however.
