A team from the city of Ponferrada is going to struggle for the rest of the season to maintain their status in Segunda Division. Their problems have manifested in all sorts of different ways, including low goalscoring games, allowing too many goals, and winning only five matches in 20 played. They are still out of the relegation zone, but only by three points. Their fortune is that there are still teams that are far worse than them, but that could change as there are still a lot of seasons to be played. Ponferradina won their last league match against Lugo by 1-0, it was their first win since the first day of November. Since then, they have endured four losses and a couple of draws. They don’t have any injury concerns at the moment which is good news for coach David Gallego.

Atletico Madrid

It’s not even the middle of the season and Atletico Madrid is already out of the title race. Diego Simeone has been under increased pressure recently for bad results with Atletico winning only seven out of their 14 matches this season. They are still in the hunt for a Champions League place, but that will be a small comfort considering that they are down 13 points from leaders Barcelona. Lack of efficiency was never an issue with Atletico, they were never setting the league on fire with their scoring, but rather playing tough defensive schemes that were often called boring. Simeone did manage to bring some trophies to Atletico which counts for something, but the team is in a sort of downfall in the last year, so the Argentine coach will have to answer some questions when the time comes. Antoine Griezmann is their main force this season with five goals and four assists, he won’t be playing this match because he is with the France squad at the World Cup. But, Simeone will certainly give chances to players that don’t feature often in La Liga.
