Liverpool vs Lyon Preview: Looking at the goalscoring opportunities
Liverpool
Things haven’t gone as planned for Liverpool this season, and it seems that everything bad that happened results-wise is connected to Sadio Mane’s departure. Mohamed Salah hasn’t been as efficient as he was when the Senegal winger was his teammate in the attack, and Darwin Nunez, the biggest Reds signing of the past summer has not played to his full potential just yet. All being said, Liverpool is only sixth in the Premier League trailing their arch-rivals Manchester United which hasn’t happened in a while. There are still a lot of seasons to play, but the Reds need some encouragement. At this time of the year coaches usually complain about the hectic playing schedule, but this year, because of the World Cup, plenty of players were left with an unplanned break, and coach Jurgen Klopp had a chance to work with them during this break. Liverpool is preparing for the remainder of the season in Dubai and will play additional friendlies in the days, and weeks ahead.
Lyon
The French side is in a similar position as Liverpool, they have disappointed their fans thus far, currently lying in the eighth spot in Ligue 1. They missed the qualification into some of the European competitions this season, and they are trying to rectify that problem this time around. However, it hasn’t worked out as planned once again. Lyon’s main problem this season is their away form, they won only one game the entire season when playing outside their comfort zone and those points are now missed. There are some positives, however, Alexandre Lacazette returned to the club on a free transfer this summer and is his team’s best scorer with nine goals. Tete and Karl Toko Ekambi have also been decent enough. But, Lyon needs improvement. They already played a couple of friendly matches, defeating Belgian side Leuven 5-3, and losing to Arsenal by 3-0.
