Leicester vs Liverpool: Match Preview for Monday’s Big Game

The situation can’t be more desperate for the Foxes. They lost 3-5 away vs Fulham last weekend and this saw them collapse in the relegation zone with just 3 rounds left. Once again Leicester were awful defensively in this last match. They have now gone 20 consecutive PL games without a clean sheet. At home failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 matches.

Liverpool on the other hand made it 6 wins in a row when edging Brentford 1-0 at home last weekend. Mo Salah scored his 19th PL goal of the season to bring the win and keep Liverpool’s top-4 chances alive. The Egyptian had been unstoppable for some time now. He has scored in 6 of the last 7 PL matches and has 8 goals in the last 9 rounds.

Liverpool continue to have issues on the road though and only 31% of their points this season were collected outside Anfield. They also lost their last 2 away PL games vs Leicester but earlier this year beat the Foxes 2-1 at home.

Both teams to score early

In 49% of games involving Leicester this season there were more than 1.5 first-half goals (17 out of 35 PL matches). This is well above the average for the PL league – 36%.

Liverpool are also no strangers to fast starts on the road. The Reds tend to score on average their first goal away from home in the 32nd minute but they also concede in the 34th minute on their travels.

Key battles that could decide the outcome of the game

We think the game might be decided by the tussle between Harvey Barnes and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Barnes scored 2 goals in the last match and he is very dangerous on the left wing. TAA has been used in a new role lately. He’s asked to move to the middle of the park when the Reds are in possession and operate as an extra ball distributor. This opens spaces on the flank he naturally has to defend when Liverpool don’t have the ball. Will Leicester and Barnes in particular be able to exploit that?

The Form Guide: Leicester vs Liverpool

Leicester

Leicester offered another pathetic defensive display last weekend. They trailed Fulham 0-4 before starting playing but it was too late. The Foxes have a single win in the last 13 rounds (D3 L9). At home, they lost 4 of their last 6 PL games (W1 D1).

Liverpool

Liverpool won 6 in a row and they are now unbeaten in 8. The Reds also scored 8 goals in their last 2 away matches and late in the season they have finally rediscovered their form from the previous 3 years.

Leicester remain restricted in defence where 3 important players are missing injured – Vestegaard, Bertrand and Justin. The useful striker Iheanacho also nurses a problem and threatens to miss.

Liverpool

Liverpool have no fresh injury issues. However, both Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino are unlikely to be passed fit on time. Thiago is ruled for the season, as well as, 2 of the youngsters.

Our Prediction: Liverpool to continue their winning run and deepen the Foxes’ troubles

  • We predict a 2-1 Liverpool win with Mo Salah once again getting on the scoresheet.
