Espanyol vs Torino Picks, Odds, and Predictions
Torino has made the trip to Spain for the training period ahead of the second stage of the Serie A season, they will face an Espanyol side starting their training camp.
Draw
Getting their first game under the belt for both teams will be important. It will be their premier outing since the season was halted for the World Cup. Both coaches are expected to feature mixed squads without the pressure of a win.
Both Teams to Score – No
These are not teams that score a lot of goals, both of them average just above one per game, and as this is the first friendly match for both teams, they should be looking to build some chemistry instead of running up the score.
Under 2.5 Goals
A similar reason applies here as well. Four out of the last five games Espanyol played in La Liga ended with less than three goals scored. Torino had two in a row with ‘under’ goals.
Espanyol vs Torino Preview: Building some momentum
Espanyol
The Catalan side has a tough opening part of the season winning only two games in 14 meetings, but somehow they are still not in the relegation zone. That goes to show how the La Liga season is unfolding, especially at the bottom part of the table where there are plenty of teams in dangerous situations to drop out of the Premier Spanish football competition. Espanyol only won once in their past ten league matches, and the pressure is growing for the management to find some reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window. Espanyol doesn’t have an abundance of financial resources to find those solutions in this part of the season, and it will be mostly about the coach Diego Martinez finding players who can turn the season around within its ranks. Joselu is the only player that hasn’t disappointed this season scoring seven times which is almost half of all the goals the Barcelona team got on the record.
Torino
Torino is not in that kind of dire situation. Their form has been consistent throughout the season, and coach Ivan Juric is even getting some possible offers to move away from the club shortly. Torino is lying at the ninth spot in the Serie A rankings with plenty of room for improvement. The Italian side has some availability issues with Perr Schuurs and Ola Aina missing through injury. Nikola Vlasic was loaned from West Ham this past summer and has become an integral part of the team scoring four times which makes him the team’s best scorer this season. Vlasic is with the Croatian national team at the World Cup, so he won’t be with the Torino outfit for some time. There are other players as well who are missing because of the Qatar tournament, so Juric will have to make do with what he does have at his disposal.
