Aston Villa vs Chelsea Picks, Odds, and Predictions
Two Premier League sides are preparing for soon-to-be a continuation of the exciting domestic season, especially with the hectic holiday schedule coming up.
Both Teams to Score – Yes
Chelsea is depleted squad-wise because of the World Cup obligations for many players, and coach Graham Potter will work with the ones he got. There were some injury issues in the season, and he will be hoping his younger players will use this opportunity to get their goalscoring form going.
Over 2.5 Goals
Four of the last five matches between these teams ended with two or more goals scored. This is a friendly match that won’t have the same competitive edge, but it will show how much some of these players worked in times when there weren’t any games in the schedule.
Aston Villa to Win
It is always hard to find a winning advantage when it comes to friendly matches, but Aston Villa should have at least a fraction of a bigger chance to win for the pure sake of having more players available.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Preview: Potter needs to find solutions
Aston Villa
New coach Unai Emery brought some fresh excitement into the team that was losing a step under former manager Steven Gerrard. Time will tell if Emery is a good solution long term, but for now, things are looking a lot better than earlier in the season. Aston Villa is 12th in the Premiership rankings thanks to three wins in their last four matches before the World Cup break. They were lacking goalscoring during their first 15 games only getting 16 goals on the record which is not good enough for a team that was built with big money. Emery could potentially get a new player or two during the winter transfer window, but that remains to be seen.
Chelsea
Graham Potter will need to use some fresh, younger legs during this short preparation period as there are a bunch of players who are still with their national teams during the World Cup, or some of them are taking a break after their teams went back home. Also, there is number of players who are injured like N’Golo Kante, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Wesley Fofana, so Potter won’t risk any further injuries in friendly matches to his important players, at least to the ones they are in Abu Dhabi where the team is preparing. Looking at their league position, it’s the worst it has been in the last few years, they are barely holding onto the eighth spot with Champions League football looking further away. They will need to start winning as soon as the season continues if they want to keep their chances of Champions League football next season.
