Yanina Wickmayer and Madison Keys will face off for a spot in the third round of the Women’s Singles main draw at the 2023 US Open. How will the home crowd favorite fare in this matchup? Check out our predictions for this 2023 US Open second round match.

Our favourite Yanina Wickmayer vs Madison Keys predictions

Keys is the undeniable favorite heading into this match. While her results weren’t particularly eye-catching during the American hard court season, it’s difficult to imagine Lucky Loser Wickmayer putting up much of a fight.

Madison Keys 2-0 @ 8/13 (1.62)

Keys entered the US Open on the back of a disappointing first round exit at Cincinnati. But the 28-year old bounced back in style, easily dispatching first round opponent Arantxa Rus in straight sets. More importantly, Keys was absolutely dominant, securing 10 breaks while not giving up a single one.

The former US Open runner-up always does well in New York. Lucky Loser Wickmayer impressed in the first round, dispatching fellow qualifier Vera Zvoraneva in straight sets. But the Belgian will have a much harder time against Keys, making the American the favorite to win this one in straight sets.

Madison Keys -5.5 games @ 21/20 (2.05)

Assuming Keys wraps this one up in straight sets, a -5.5 handicap would definitely be a possibility. The American just covered that same line in her opening match, defeating Rus with a 6-4 6-2 score. While dominating in winners, Keys also kept her errors to a minimum.

Wickmayer also had more winners than first round opponent Zvoraneva, but both players combined for 68 unforced errors. Wickmayer also gave up three breaks, and Keys will likely take every chance she is given. If the American manages to repeat her first round performance, she should have an easy time covering the -5.5 line.

Yanina Wickmayer vs Madison Keys: Will the American advance into the third round?

We have already set the predictions for today’s US Open match. Now, let’s take a look at how Wickmayer and Keys have done to get into the second round.

Yanina Wickmayer preview

Wickmayer enjoyed a surge in form this summer. The veteran Belgian player made it past the first round in three of her last four tournaments, the highlight being a semifinal appearance in Warsaw.

The former US Open semifinalist withdrew from her final match in the qualifiers, in which she was the #3 seed. But Wickmayer was promoted to the main draw as a Lucky Loser, and made the most of the opportunity by securing her first appearance in the US Open’s second round since 2018.

Madison Keys preview

As mentioned early, Keys’ form wasn’t particularly impressive during the American leg of the summer hard court season. The Illinois-native’s best result was a quarterfinals appearance in Washington.

But the 2017 US Open runner-up has left that behind, enjoying a fine debut in New York. Keys secured her opening round win in just under an hour and a half, and is in a great position to make it to the third round.

Wickmayer vs Keys head to head
