Madison Keys is back in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third time in her professional career. Although the 28-year-old has never claimed a Grand Slam, there is still time for her to do it.
Madison Keys is back on the tennis courts after failing in Washington. The 28-year-old USA’s star needs a great achievement to be considered one of the greatest in the world.
Last year things were not so good in Canada, but she will look for something better this time. Getting through the second round will already be very beneficial for her but she aims higher than that.

Silverware success in the United Cup and Eastbourne were the omens of something spectacular to come Keys’ way. At the All England Club, she impressed with a quarter-final finish. She had similar designs for the US Open and did one better by making it to the semi-finals.
She is nearing her career-high ranking of WTA 7, forcing her way to 12th place after dropping to 24 during the year. However, with a 33/12 record in 2023, she will want a bigger trophy haul than she currently has. She will be trying her luck at Guadalajara where she is ranked fourth and will start in the second round after getting a first-round bye.
Sometimes it’s just not your day. Keys has had two of those days in 2023. Both times she had to face Aryna Sabalenka. However, she impressed with her improved displays in successive outings. After getting routed in straight sets at the Championships’ quarterfinals, she made the Belarusian sweat in a three-setter at the US Open semi-finals.
She will not turn her attention towards compatriot Emma Navarro in the Guadalajara Open. The duo met earlier in the year in Charleston. The green clay proved fortuitous for Keys, who claimed a 2-0 victory on her way to the quarter-finals. As they meet again after a six-month gap and on a different surface, the duo will have that result in mind but not counting on it.
Madison Keys’ 2023 campaign so far
This season, the experienced tennis player has won a couple of awards. The first came at the United Cup, where she competed alongside Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe, and Taylor Fritz, who formed the US Team.
It took Keys six months to earn her maiden singles title. Madison had numerous excellent moments in Eastbourne that helped her win the championship.
This season, Madison’s debt has been her poor performance in important tournaments. So far, she had not advanced past the third round of a Grand Slam and has only reached the quarterfinals of a Masters tournament.
WTA rankings updates – ways to get back to top 10
