The US Open kicks off this week; 128 players will make the trip to Flushing Meadows, hoping to win the last grand slam event of the year. Which of these players will come out on top when it’s all said and done? In this article, we’ll provide our WTA US Open predictions, which will be updated daily. We’ll also take a look at some of the outright favourites.
Contents
Aryna Sabalenka to win outright @ 19/10 (2.90)
It’s important to point out that the pre-tournament favourite on the women’s side was Iga Swiatek. The Polish player won this event last year, and was World number 1 heading into this competition. However, the four-time grand slam champion crashed out in the round of 16 at the hands of Jelena Ostapenko. As a result, Iga lost 1,760 WTA ranking points, which ensured that Aryna Sabalenka will be World number 1 for the first time in her career. Considering the early exits of Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek is our pick for the US Open title. The Belarusian has proven to be one of the best hard court players on the tour in recent years, and we think she’ll win her second grand slam on this surface at the end of this tournament.
WTA US Open 2023 tips – day 9
There are many matches scheduled for today, and these are some of our predictions:
Jelena Ostapenko vs Coco Gauff – Ostapenko to win a set @ 3/4 (1.75)
It may interest you to know that this will be the second encounter between these players in a grand slam this year. Jelena Ostapenko and Coco Gauff clashed at the Australian Open in January, and it was the Latvian who came out on top in straight sets. Moreover, Ostapenko took at least one set in two previous skirmishes between these players. We would also like to point out that the former Roland Garros champion is coming off one of her biggest career wins; as she eliminated defending champion Iga Swiatek in the previous round. All things considered, we don’t think Ostapenko will go down in straight sets.
Sorana Cirstea vs Karolina Muchova – Muchova to win @ 1/2 (1.50)
This should be an interesting clash between two familiar foes. Sorana Cirstea and Karolina Muchova will be meeting for the fifth time today. It’s fair to point out that all four previous skirmishes between these players took place on this surface, and three of them were in 2023. That said, Karolina Muchova won three of four encounters between these two, with two of those coming in straight sets. While Sorana Cirstea has put up some fine performances in this competition, we believe the road ends here for the Romanian player.
WTA US Open favourites
These are the current favourites to win this year’s edition of the US Open.
Cori Gauff
Despite being one of the pre-tournament favourites, Coco Gauff has never won a grand slam title in her career. She came close last year, where she lost to Swiatek at the French Open final. Be that as it may, Gauff is just 19 years old, and she has five WTA career titles to her name. As a matter of fact, the American won three titles this year, and two of those titles came this month. Gauff is fresh off her first career WTA 1000 title, and she is currently valued at 5/2 (3.50) to hoist this title.
Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka has proven to be one of the best players in the World recently. The Belarusian won her first career grand slam title at the Australian Open this year; she has participated in five tournament finals in 2023, winning three titles. It may interest you to know that Sabalenka is the prize money leader on the WTA Tour this year; she can be backed at 19/10 (2.90) to win her second career grand slam at the end of this tournament.
