She performed well in the previous round in Rome defeating Sloane Stephens 6-4, 6-3. Last week, Azarenka lost the opener in Madrid, 2-0 to Alycia Parks. Her best result this season came at the Australian Open where she reached the semifinals losing to Elena Rybakina. Azarenka made her debut in Rome back in 2006 and had her biggest success reaching the final in 2013 where she lost to Serena Williams.
Madison Keys
Keys is ranked at No. 23 while her best ranking was at No. 7. The American is 15-6 for the season and 4-1 on clay. In the previous round in Rome, Keys defeated Magdalena French in straight sets. That was her first match in more than a month since she lost in the quarterfinals in Charlestone to Darya Kasatkina. That was her second quarterfinal this season after she reached the same stage in Dubai where she lost to Coco Gauff.
