The US Open 2024 draw has officially been made! That means the fourth and final slam of the calendar year is ready to rumble. It also means that we can now take a comprehensive look at the draw to see how things are shaping up in New York. Of course, that’s my purpose today – to share insights, thoughts, and well-researched analysis regarding the draw.
That said, you will no doubt have your own reasons for looking into the US Open 2024 draw. Some of you will wish to run through the draw to help justify any US Open 2024 men’s singles predictions you may be considering covering. Others may want guidance on which matches to tune in for over the coming days.
Whatever your reasons might be for taking a closer look at the US Open 2024 draw, I am sure I’ve got some valuable information to share with you today. Additionally, I’ve broken down this full review of the draw from different perspectives to keep things concise and relevant. That means predictions, a recap of the top seeds, highlights for blockbuster matches, and more are separate accordingly.
Anyway, that’s about enough of what you can expect today. So, let’s move forward and break down the entire US Open 2024 draw before things begin on Monday, August 26th.
US Open draw 2024 – the top seeds for the men’s and women’s singles
Those who haven’t yet seen the US Open 2024 draw should know that both the men’s and women’s singles events have 32 seeds. Each of these seeds has been placed in random segments of the draw with the exception of the top two seeds, who are always at opposite ends of the draw. But, in the interest of keeping things as relevant as possible, I won’t be covering all 32 seeds for these events.
Instead, I’d prefer to highlight the top eight seeds for both the men’s and women’s singles so you can take notes of and track these individuals as the event progresses.
Men’s singles top seeds
Like most Grand Slam tournaments, the men’s singles event for the US Open is absolutely stacked this year. There are many guys who fall into the seeded players category who could do real damage at Flushing Meadows. But as promised, I will keep the attention on the top eight seeds today, whom I have highlighted below:

- Seed One – Jannik Sinner
- Seed Two – Novak Djokovic
- Seed Three – Carlos Alcaraz
- Seed Four – Alexander Zverev
- Seed Five – Daniil Medvedev
- Seed Six – Andrey Rublev
- Seed Seven – Hubert Hurkacz
- Seed Eight – Casper Ruud
Women’s singles top seeds
Much like the men’s singles event, there are many in-form players who find themselves among the top eight seeds for the women’s singles this year. Sure, there are a couple of names that stand out as red-hot favourites above the rest. However, each of the following eight individuals could end up lifting the title in New York for 2024:
- Seed One – Iga Swiatek
- Seed Two – Aryna Sabalenka
- Seed Three – Coco Gauff
- Seed Four – Elena Rybakina
- Seed Five – Jasmine Paolini
- Seed Six – Jessica Pegula
- Seed Seven – Qinwen Zheng
- Seed Eight – Barbora Krejcikova
Most interesting matches from the US Open 2024 draw
The reason that it’s always exciting to look at the official draw for any tournament is because this shows the most intriguing matches. At the same time, the draw is what shows the possible paths to the title for the favoured players. And again, since professional tennis tournaments follow knockout formats, the only matches we know for sure that will happen are the first round games.
Therefore, rather than speculate concerning the possible matches that could unfold in some of the later rounds, I’d like to give you a shortlist of the guaranteed first-round contests that could be classics.
Men’s singles draw
There are some truly mouthwatering first round clashes scheduled for the men’s singles tournament when looking at the US Open 2024 draw. As a friendly reminder, all of these first round matches will be played during the first couple of days of the tournament. So, you may want to keep August 26th and August 27th free if you want to watch some of these intriguing games.
As for the matches I am talking about here, I encourage you to try and tune in for the following first-round clashes:
- Tsitsipas vs Kokkinakis
- De Minaur vs Giron
- Monfils vs Schwartzman
- Opelka vs Musetti
- Shelton vs Thiem
Women’s singles draw
Because the schedule for the US Open 2024 aligns for the men’s and women’s singles events, the first round of this tournament will also be played on Monday and Tuesday.

That being said, I’ve taken a full look at the draw for the women’s singles, and I believe that the following matches could be highly entertaining:
- Raducanu vs Kenin
- Rogers vs Pegula
- Ostapenko vs Osaka
- Andreescu vs Paolini
- Townsend vs Trevisan
US Open 2024 draw – notable absences and withdrawals
It goes without saying that running through the official matches and seeded players for the US Open draw 2024 is important. However, I feel it’s also critical to highlight a few absences and withdrawals, as these impact the draw as a whole. At the same time, it can cause confusion among tennis fans when some big names aren’t listed in the draw.
Subsequently, I’ve covered this area for the men’s and women’s singles tournaments below.
Men’s singles absences and withdrawals
Fortunately, the men’s singles tournament hasn’t been plagued by absences and withdrawals this year. But again, there are some headline names that will not take to the courts at Flushing Meadows for 2024. Let me give you the biggest names right now:
- Rafael Nadal (Withdrawal)
- Cameron Norrie (Withdrawal)
- Nick Kyrgios (Absent)
Women’s singles absences and withdrawals
The women’s singles event hasn’t necessarily been impacted by surprise withdrawals or absences either. However, there are still a couple of top 20 players who will not be competing in 2024. And there are a couple of top 50 players who have recently announced their withdrawal from the tournament as well.
Once again, I’ve shortlisted these names for you below:
- Marketa Vondrousova (Withdrawal)
- Ons Jabeur (Withdrawal)
- Sorana Cirstea (Withdrawal)
- Zhu Lin (Withdrawal)
Updated predictions based on the official US Open draw 2024
As promised in my introduction to the US Open 2024 draw breakdown above, I will now share my predictions for who could win the tournament this year. Of course, my US Open 2024 women’s singles predictions and men’s singles predictions are by no means guaranteed.

However, I have looked at the top names to see who has performed well in New York in the past, who is currently in form, and who looks most likely to take the title before creating these predictions. So, while my predictions cannot be guaranteed, I certainly believe I have come up with some of the more likely titled contenders.
Men’s singles predictions
The men’s singles event is somewhat open this year compared with previous years. Guys like Jannik Sinner have been tearing it up in 2024, and Carlos Alcaraz has enjoyed one of the best summer seasons I’ve ever seen. In addition, we’ve got other individuals, such as Andrey Rublev, who have performed well on the hard courts in several Masters 1000 build-up events.
That being said, I actually believe that none of these mentioned players will be crowned King in New York for 2024. Instead, I think it will be the GOAT who takes home the title in just a couple of weeks’ time. Not only is Novak Djokovic the defending champion, but I think his performance in the Olympics certified that he’s still the man to beat in men’s tennis.
I also feel that his victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Olympics has produced a swing in momentum in the sport overall. By this, I mean that Djokovic has regained his hold on the throne, so he will be a very hard man to beat at Flushing Meadows.
Women’s singles predictions
As you can probably remember, it was Coco Gauff who clinched her very first Grand Slam title in New York in 2023. Prior to that, it was the current world number one, Iga Swiatek, who won the title. That said, I don’t believe that Gauff or Swiatek are in the form required to bring home the title this year.
In my opinion, the winner of the US Open 2024 for the women’s singles will be Aryna Sabalenka. She was the runner-up in 2023, and to be honest, I feel she would have won that match on any other day. To add further substance to my opinion, her recent title run in Cincinnati was nothing short of incredible.
Sabalenka took down practically every top contender involved in the US Open 2024 draw in straight sets. Of course, this shows that she is playing fantastic tennis right now. And since she is the number two seed in New York, I really can see her going all the way and winning this Grand Slam for the first time.
