We would like to point out that Sonay Kartal has played a total of three matches in the main draw of WTA tournaments in the past 12 months, and she lost all three matches. The Brit crashed out in the first qualifying round of the last three grand slams, and only made it through to this competition as a wild card. Interestingly, Kartal was a wild card here last year, but she didn’t make it past the first round.
In contrast, Madison Keys is fresh off a WTA title at the Eastbourne International; she won the tournament without surrendering a single set last week, beating players like Coco Gauff, Petra Martic and Daria Kasatkina in the process. Bearing in mind that Sonay Kartal mostly plies her trade in ITF events, anything other than a straight sets victory for Madison Keys would be a surprise.

We’ve already established that Madison Keys won the Eastbourne International title last week. She’s coming into this match on the back of five consecutive wins, and all of those victories were in straight sets. Compared to the players Keys faced at Eastbourne last week, Sonay Kartal should be a relatively easier opponent. Although we believe the British player will give her all to win this match, we don’t think she’ll do enough to take more than eight games off Madison Keys.
