Sebastian Korda vs Daniil Medvedev Match Predictions
Contents
The second-ever encounter between Korda and Medvedev promises to be a tight battle. Both players have been in good form at the Australian Open and are also coming off a solid showing in Adelaide. The result is probably going to come down to a fine margin, with a slight edge in Medvedev’s favor.
Korda to Win a Set
While Medvedev is the favorite heading into the match, Korda is absolutely going to put up a fight. The young American continues to build upon his 2022 success, and we can expect him to take at least one set in this one.
Whether he manages to make it into a five-setter is a different story. But betting on Korda to win a set seems relatively safe, and comes with good value as well.
Over 34.5 Games
Assuming it doesn’t end in straight sets, this match is almost guaranteed to hit the over. Both Medvedev and Korda gave a few breaks in the first two rounds. The two will have chances to pounce on each other’s mistakes, and it in turn will likely extend the match’s duration.
Korda’s matches in round 1 and round 2 both went over 30 games, and we can expect a repeat of this pattern in this close duel.
Sebastian Korda vs Daniil Medvedev Preview
The match predictions have already been laid out. Now, it’s time to analyze how these two players have gotten here, and how they are heading into this round 3 encounter.
Sebastian Korda
It’s been a very good month of January for the young American. Seb Korda made it to the final at the 1st Adelaide International, but suffered a comeback loss to Djokovic. Prior to the final, Korda had not dropped a set all tournament.
He had a bit of a shaky start in Melbourne, dropping a set to Cristian Garin, but pulled himself together and dispatched the Chilean. Korda then closed out a surprisingly tricky matchup against Yosuke Watanuki. Despite the Japanese hitting a good number of winners, Korda made the most of his opponent’s mistakes and saved 15 break points along the way.
The 22-year old from Florida will definitely give Medvedev a run for his money, but the upset looks like a bit of a longshot.
Daniil Medvedev
Following a disappointing 2022, which saw him drop out of the top 5 in the ATP ranking, Danil Medvedev seems to be regaining his old form. The Russian got off to a solid start with a semifinals berth at the 1st Adelaide International, ultimately losing to Djokovic in straight sets.
These are the only sets Medvedev has dropped so far. The former number 1 breezed past Marcus Giron in the first round, and then held off the ever feisty John Millman in the second round.
Korda is a significant step-up compared to his previous two Australian Open opponents, but Medvedev is definitely trending up at the start of 2023. He will need a good result in order to defend the points from his 2022 runner-up finish.
Korda vs Medvedev Head to Head
This will be their second meeting at the ATP Tour level. Medvedev and Korda previously faced off at the Paris Masters 1000 in 2021, with the Russian scoring a comeback win in three sets.
