All eyes will be on the SC Gripe – Mala Dvorana as the Netherlands and Finland go head-to-head on Tuesday. Which of these teams will come out on top at the end of this Davis Cup match?
Our favourite Netherlands vs Finland match predictions
Contents
As the Netherlands and Finland clash for the third time today, these are our predictions and tips for this match.
Netherlands to win 3-0
We would like to start by pointing out that this will be the third encounter between these teams. The Netherlands and Finland first clashed in 2002; in the qualifying rounds where the Dutch won 4-1. They proceeded to beat Finland once more, in a perfect 5-0 victory in 2012.
That said, although Finland have four wins in their last five matches, they’ve beaten teams like Argentina, India and New Zealand in that stretch. Compared to these teams, the Netherlands will be a relatively bigger fish to fry. Bearing in mind that the Dutch defeated the USA and Great Britain in the previous edition of this competition; coupled with the fact that they’ve dominated Finland in the past, anything other than a 3-0 victory for the Netherlands would be a surprise.
Can Finland get their first win over the Netherlands today?
Now that we’ve gotten our Netherlands vs Finland prediction out of the way, let’s see how both teams fared in the previous edition of the Davis Cup.
Netherlands preview
The Netherlands have had some success in this tournament in the past; they made it through to the semifinals in 2001, their best performance till date. Paul Haarhuis’ men came close last year, defeating Great Britain, USA and Kazakhstan en route to the playoffs. However, they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of eventual finalists Australia in the playoff quarter-finals. The Dutch were drawn alongside the United States once again, with Croatia and Finland being the other teams in Group D. They’ll fancy their chances of going through to the playoffs.

Finland preview
On the other hand, Finland haven’t fared too well in the Davis Cup finals in a very long time. The last time they made it through to the World Group playoffs was in 2002. The Finns didn’t make it to this stage last year, as they lost to Belgium in the qualifying rounds. Interestingly, Finland didn’t have too much trouble defeating Argentina in the qualifying rounds this year, earning their place in the Davis Cup finals.
