Mirra Andreeva – Another Sharapova in the Making?

Mirra Andreeva is without question one of the most exciting talents on the WTA Tour. She was one of the youngest players to ever win a WTA main draw match when she was just 15 years old. This occurred earlier this year, and Andreeva is now bidding for a main draw spot in the 2023 French Open – watch out for this one!

How Old Is Mirra Andreeva?

At the time of writing, Mirra Andreeva is 16 years old. She turned 16 on April 29th, meaning she was born in 2007. Of course, this makes her one of the youngest players to be active on the WTA Tour concerning the top of the tree. Andreeva was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and she has an older sister who is also a professional tennis player – Erika Andreeva.

And since turning professional, her win record is quite sensational too. She’s won 56 of 67 professional matches, giving a win/loss statistic of 56/11. Translated another way, Andreeva has a winning percentage above 80% in terms of professional matches.

Mirra Andreeva Ranking and Roland Garros Standing

Andreeva is involved in the qualifiers for Roland Garros this year. Should she qualify for the main draw, this would be her first main draw Grand Slam appearance. This would follow a run to the finals in the Australian Open girl’s singles back in January. As for her ranking, since she only turned professional last year, there isn’t a load of history here.

However, we can still show you the highest ranking per season for Andreeva:

  • 2022 – 293
  • 2023 – 143 (Current)

Andreeva finished the 2022 season ranked 405 in the world. Yet she’s clearly maintained her climb through the rankings, largely helped by a sensational run to the 4th round of the 2023 Madrid Open.

Next match: French Open Third Round vs Coco Gauff

After reaching the main draw through qualifiers, Mirra Andreeva was scheduled to meet with Alison Riske-Amritraj in the First Round of Roland Garros.

Despite the fact that Riske-Amritraj is 85th in the WTA rankings, ahead of Andreeva, and a much more experienced player, it was the youngster that dominated the match and won 2-0 (6-1, 6-2).

The same was the case in the next match for Andreeva that she played against another teenager, the young French star in the making, Diane Parry. Andreeva once again dominated the match from start to finish, beating Parry 2-0 (6-1, 6-2).

In the next round, the 16-year-old will meet with Cori “Coco” Gauff, the world no.6 at the moment and the finalist from last year’s French Open. So, this will clearly be the toughest test yet for Andreeva, but the teenager seems ready to surprise us once again.
