Matteo Berrettini vs Jannik Sinner – Match Predictions
Contents
Jannik Sinner is the highest-ranked Italian player at the moment, after Matteo Berrettini was the one before him. The local rivalry will add a little more competitive space to the match.
Matteo Berrettini +2.5 games
Berrettini had many injury issues earlier this season, and his appearance in Wimbledon was questionable. Still, he showed up and played excellently. There is no doubt that Sinner is in better shape and is the favorite to win this one but Berrettini is the more experienced player and will find a way to hold tight in this match and cover the +2.5 games spread.
First set over 10.5 games
Both players have excellent serves and we will not see many breaks. They prefer playing on this surface at the Toronto Open and it will be a tough match from the first point. Both will be able to hold to their serves for a while and the first set will go over 10.5 games and maybe in tiebreak.
Matteo Berrettini vs Jannik Sinner Preview
The two Italian players have huge ambitions at the National Bank Open and it is a shame that they meet this early in the tournament. Given the odds, Sinner is the favorite but Berrettini will not go down easily.
Matteo Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini is currently 38th in the rankings which is way lower to his career-high at No. 6. The 27-year-old is 13-9 for the season and 8-7 on hard surface.
Berrettini finished the last season with a back injury and hurt his back later on which made him miss a significant portion of the season. At Wimbledon, he reached the round of 16 where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz after previously defeating Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, and Lorenzo Sonego.
Other than that, his best result for the season is the quarterfinal at the Challenger in Phoenix.
Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner is enjoying his highest career ranking being No. 8 in the world. He is 37-11 for the season and 14-4 on hard.
This will be his first appearance after he made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon, the first time he went that deep in any Grand Slam.
Earlier this season, Sinner won the title in Montpellier and lost in the finals in Rotterdam and Miami, both times to Daniil Medvedev.
