Davidovich Fokina is 37th in the ATP rankings and his career high was No. 24. The 24-year-old is 25-21 for the season and 13-6 on hard.
He started the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 win over JJ Wolf before beating Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-1. In the round of 16, the Spaniard played one of the best matches this year defeating world No. 4 Casper Ruud, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6.
This is the sixth quarterfinal for Davidovich Fokina this season and he is hoping to make it to the first semifinal.
