Laura Siegemund vs Caroline Garcia – Match Predictions
Contents
It has been a lot of hard work for Laura Siegemund, the world number 158, to reach the third round and setup this clash with Caroline Garcia. Siegemund has required three sets in the first and second rounds compared with Garcia coming through in straight sets in both matches.
Garcia to Win The Match and Under 19.5 Total Games
Garcia has played two Canadians so far in the tournament and breezed through her first round with Katherine Sebov, dropping only three games all match. It was a tougher test with Leylah Fernandez but Garcia was only broken once on her way to a 2-0 victory.
Siegemund has only recently returned from a knee injury and she has probably exceeded her own expectations by getting this far in Melbourne. Her exertions from the earlier rounds are likely to catch up with her in this match.
We expect Siegemund to fight for every point but ultimately to be beaten comfortably by Garcia.
Set 1 Score After 6 Games – Caroline Garcia 4-2
Although Caroline Garcia required a tie-break in the first set of her second round victory, we expect her to come out of the traps quickly in this game. She will know that fatigue could set in early for Siegemund and will want to get on top of her early. We predict that Garcia, who has only been broken once across the tournament so far, will hold her first three serves and break one of Siegemund’s first three.
Laura Siegemund vs Caroline Garcia Preview
Let’s take a closer look at the previous records of both players. Whoever wins this could be a household name by the end of the Australian Open 2023 tournament!
Laura Siegemund
Since her first appearance at a Grand Slam in 2015, Siegemund has only reached one quarter final – at the French Open in 2020. She has a 44% win record at the Australian Open and has only previously reached this stage once before. Her world ranking peaked at number 27 back in August 2016.
Caroline Garcia
Garcia’s best Grand Slam appearance took place in her last Grand Slam – at the US Open in the autumn of last year. She went all the way to the semi-final before being knocked out by eventual runner-up Tunisian, Ons Jabeur. Here in Melbourne, she has not gone beyond the second round in either of the last three tournaments.
Laura Siegemund vs Caroline Garcia Head to Head
The pair have met once previously with Garcia coming out on top 6-3 6-1 at the 2021 French Open. Although this match is not in front of her home fans, we expect her to defend the 1-0 head to head score.
