Jiri Lehecka vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

World number 71, Czechia’s Jiri Lehecka, comes up against Canada’s world number seven, Felix Auger-Aliassime, with a place in the Australian Open Quarter Final up for grabs. Both players have had a five-setter and a four setter in their last two rounds and this game could well go the distance.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Jiri Lehecka vs Felix Auger-Aliassime – Match Prediction

Compared to the other three Grand Slams, both players have their highest win percentages in Melbourne. Lehecka had never gone past the first round of any slam before this tournament and Auger-Aliassime has a 77% win rate at the Australian Open. Let’s zoom in on our tennis predictions below.

Total Sets – Five

Jiri Lehecka began this tournament with a straight sets victory (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) over 21st seed Borna Coric, but the two subsequent rounds have taken a lot more out of him. Christopher Eubanks took  a set in the second round before 11th seed, Cameron Norrie, went 2-1 up before Lehecka came back to win in five on Friday.

Felix Auger-Aliassime has had to wade through 13 sets to get to this stage. He found himself 1-0 down in the first round against compatriot Vasek Posipsil, before coming back from 2-0 down against Alex Molcan in the second. 28th seed Francisco Cerundolo levelled the third round tie at 1-1 before Aliassime came through 6-1, 6-4.

Neither player has been able to complete much of their business in a swift fashion and we expect more of the same in this clash.

Either Player to Lose The First Set & Win The Match

Auger-Aliassime has already shown an ability to win the match after losing the first set on two occasions in Melbourne and the 22 year old certainly possesses a ‘never-say-die’ attitude. Lehecka found himself a set down and then two sets to one down against Cameron Norrie. Lehecka’s attitude stood out against Norrie and he maintained his composure despite facing uphill struggles on many occasions.

Both Lehecka and Auger-Aliassime have youth on their side and are blessed with good fitness and plenty of stamina. Whoever wins the first set will still have a long way to go before claiming the match.
