Felix Auger-Aliassime Australian Open 2023 Odds
The young Canadian hasn’t been very convincing so far. Yet he came through 3 consecutive tough tests as a winner and his confidence is growing fast. Auger-Aliassime has problems with his focus, but when he is locked in he could compete against anyone on the tour. Here are the current outright odds:
These odds put him as equal third favourite to win the title. Only Djokovic and Tsitsipas have better odds right now. This clearly means Auger-Aliassime is seen as a potential surprise winner. Unfortunately we don’t think so.
Upcoming match vs Lehecka – Auger-Aliassime Australian Open 2023
This will be the first ever meeting between the two, so they don’t know each other very well.
We believe as the world number 7 Auger-Aliassime should have enough quality to overcome Lehecka, a player who up until the 2023 Australian Open didn’t have a Grand Slam main draw win to his name.
Lehecka can be dangerous and the Canadian must remain focused, but ultimately he should have enough skill and know-how to ride out this challenge. Auger-Aliassime made some great returns in his last match and considering Lehecka’s problems with his first serve this could give the higher ranked player the crucial edge he needs to win.
Auger-Aliassime 2023 Australian Open Results
- Auger-Aliassime vs Pospisil – Won – 1-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3 (2023 Australian Open 1st Round)
- Auger-Aliassime vs Molcan – Won – 3-6, 3-6,6-3, 6-2, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 2nd Round)
- Auger-Aliassime vs Cerundolo – Won – 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 (2023 Australian Open 3rd Round)
In the first 2 rounds Auger-Aliassime was shaky and managed to win only due to the fact that his opponents were players outside the top 80 in the world. Against fellow Canadian Pospisil he dropped the first set and then won the next only thanks to dramatic tiebreaks before winning 3:1.
In round 2 Auger-Aliassime was staring at an embarrassing exit against Molcan, but the Canadian found inner strength and came from 2 sets down to win.
His best match so far was in the last round when he beat the 28th seed Cerundolo 3:1. Apart from the set he lost he was very good on his own serve in the other 3. Auger-Aliassime also showed excellent aggression returning serve and he amassed 20 break points in this match.
The next challenge for him will be to turn that level of tennis into consistent feature of his game.
Auger-Aliassime Injury update: Looking fully fit
Auger-Aliassime might be a bit tired as he is yet to record a clean win, but in terms of health issues he has none. In the last round his movement on the court was excellent and he is clearly in top shape right now.
Auger-Aliassime Past Australian Open Results
Auger-Aliassime has been constantly improving on his Australian Open results ever since he entered this tournament. On his debut in 2020 he was eliminated in round 1. In 2021 he reached round 4, while last year he made it all the way to the quarterfinals.
This is a steady progression from a young player that has already established himself as a top 10 player.
Auger-Aliassime Australian Open 2023 Prediction – quarterfinals
Auger-Aliassime hasn’t been consistent enough so far to be seriously seen as the third most likely winner of the title. He has the talent, just struggles to maintain high level of play for prolonged periods.
We still believe he can match his 2022 Australian Open achievement of reaching the quarterfinals. However, there he is likely to face the world number 4 and second favourite for the title Tsitsipas. The Greek is very solid player that many expect to be on the court come the final Sunday of the tournament. With that in mind we think Auger-Aliassime will lose a 5-set encounter between the two.
