Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka – Match Predictions
Contents
Wawrinka to Win 1st Set
The veteran Swiss star enters this match in red-hot form. He made little work of Miomir Kecmanovic and Aleksandar Vukic in earlier rounds and then held his own against Holger Rune. He has won the first set on his road to the quarter-finals and should have enough in the tank to put Sinner’s victory march on hold for some time.
2-1 to Sinner
Wawrinka’s experience and guile can give him the first set but it looks difficult that he has the gas tank to complete the job. The 21-year-old Italian has played a game fewer and has not been made to work hard by his rivals. Even if he drops one set, he should be able to come out on top in the end. Sinner is well versed in Wawrinka’s playing style as this is the fourth meeting between the two. They met in last edition of Wimbledon and in Rotterdam last month, with the youngster progressing at each time of asking.
Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka Preview
Both men are enjoying good runs of form at this moment in time, albeit it at different levels of the game. Let’s take a closer look at each player.
Jannik Sinner
Sinner is one of the form players on the ATP circuit and will fancy his chances against the ageing Wawrinka. The Italian made little work of Richard Gasquet and Adrian Mannarino to book his place in the quarter-finals. To better prepare for Indian Wells, he withdrew from ATP Marseille and the move has paid off. He would have his eye on the prize in his bid for his second title of the season after Montpellier. He came close in Rotterdam and would be gunning to deliver his best.
Stan Wawrinka
The 37-year-old Swissman completes the ATP top-100 rankings and is far from his established best. Despite his best years behind him, Wawrinka is still fighting and has earned his place with victories over Holger Rune, Miomir Kecmanovic and Aleksandar Vukic. His serves still pack a punch and if he can deliver a performance similar to the ousting of Rune, Sinner will find himself in deep waters.
Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka Head to Head
The pair played against each other in the quarter-finals of the ATP Rotterdam. Sinner won the contest 6-1, 6-1 on his route to the final where he was the runner-up to Daniil Medvedev.
