After being blown away by the defending champion Canada in the opening round of Group A of the Davis Cup Finals Group stages, Italy won in the second and now has the destiny in their own hands. All they need to do to advance to the Final 8 tournament in Malaga, is to beat the Sweden team who is locked to the bottom of the group in Bologna.

Our favourite Italy vs Sweden match predictions

Italy will be under pressure in this match but beating Sweden should not be a problem at all. For all the Davis Cup action, check out our predictions and tips page.

Italy to win 3-0

Italy was shocked in the opening match against Canada losing by 3-0 but they quickly recovered and defeated Chile with the same score. Sweden, on the other hand, has not won a single match in the previous two contests and they will most likely stay with a zero on their final scoreboard. Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego are simply on another level compared to the Swed single players and the only chance Sweden has is in the doubles event which will make no difference for the final standings in Group A.

Does Italy have a reason to worry?

Now that we have our Italy vs Sweden prediction, let’s see how these teams performed in the previous editions of the Davis Cup.

Italy preview

Italy seemed like a real contender just a month ago but without Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini, they have to put an extra effort to reach the Final 8 tournament. Being the hosts of the group definitely helps as they managed to bounce back against Chile after the starting loss against Canada. Musetti and Sonego responded well after being blown out in the firts day of the tournament and they are the once who need to get the job done against Sweden. Italy’s captain Filipo Volandri has everything he needs to get his team to the Final 8 tournament, but the Italians still need to execute well on Sunday.

Full team

  • Lorenzo Musetti
  • Lorenzo Sonego
  • Simone Bolelli
  • Andrea Vavassori
  • Matteo Arnaldi

Captain: Filippo Volandri

Sweden preview

Sweden has been one of the most successful countries in the Davis Cup winning a total of 7 titles and finishing as a runner up on five occasions. The last time they won was in 1998 and they finished third in Group A last year. Things does not look well for the Sweds who lost 3-0 against Chile in the first round and failed to win a match against Canada as well. They simply have no players on top level and are no treat for Italy just as they weren’t in the previous matches. The momentum and the team chemistry is something that lacks within the Sweden team and they will most likely finish the competiotion without any wins.

Full team

  • Mikael Ymer
  • Elias Ymer
  • Filip Bergevi
  • Leo Borg
  • Andre Goransson

Captain: Robin Soderling
