Hamburg Open will close out the clay court season as the tennis circuit moves to North America in preparations for the final Grand Slam of the season. Hamburg Open will feature both ATP 500 and WTA 250 tournaments, and even though some of the best players will not participate, there is plenty of exciting tennis action that will take place from July 24-30 in the second biggest city in Germany.

Both men’s and women’s tournaments will feature 32 in the main draw and accordingly, 8 players from each competition are seeded. In the following lines, we will take a closer look at the seeded players at the Hamburg Open.
Hamburg Open Seeds Men’s Singles
The men’s tournament will feature two of the Top 10 players in the ATP rankings and also the last year’s winner Lorenzo Musetti. Here are the 8 seeded players of the ATP Hamburg Open.
1. Casper Ruud
Ruud is ranked at No. 4 in the ATP rankings. He is 27-14 for the season and 21-7 on clay. Ruud made it to the final at the Roland Garros for the second straight year and won the title in Estoril. In the first round in Hamburg, the Norwegian defeated Sebastian Baez 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. In the second round, Ruud defeated world No. 120 Cristian Garin after coming back from a set down for a final 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Ruud lost 6-0, 6-4 to French teenager Arthur Fils.

2. Andrey Rublev
Rublev is 7th in the ATP rankings and has a 42-14 record for the season including 19-4 on clay. He won the tournaments in Monte Carlo and Bastad this past week, and lost in three other finals. In the opening round in Hamburg, Rublev was pushed to the limit by Bernabe Zapata Miralles winning the match in the final set tiebreak. In the second round, Rublev was stunned by the world No. 61 Daniel Altmaier in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

3. Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti is the defending champion of the Hamburg Open as he beat Carlos Alcaraz last year. The Italian is currently 16th in the ATP rankings and has a 27-18 record for the season including 16-10 on clay. His best result this season were the semifinals in Barcelona and Bastad. In the opening round of the Hamburg Open, Musetti defeated Elias Ymer 6-4, 6-1. In the second round Musetti defeated world No. 172 Jozef Kovalik after coming back from a set down, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Musetti lost to No. 57 Laslo Djere 7-5, 6-3.

4. Alexander Zverev
Zverev is 19th in the rankings and is coming off a quarterfinal loss against Andrey Rublev in Bastad. The German is 30-18 for the season and 16-7 on clay. He has not won a title since 2021 and is coming back in Hamburg after losing in the semifinals in 2019. In the opening round, Zverev defeated Alex Molcan 6-0, 6-3. Next on the schedule was fellow German, Maximilian Marterer who stood no chance as Zverev won 6-3, 7-5. In the quarterfinals, Zverev defeated Lucca Van Assche 6-3, 6-4. In the semis, Zverev went past another French youngster Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4. In the final, Zverev will face Laslo Djere.

5. Francisco Cerundolo
Cerundolo is 20th in the world and has a 31-98 record for the season including 18-12 on clay. The Argentinian is coming off a semifinals loss to Andrey Rublev in Bastad. Last year in Hamburg, Cerundolo made it to the semifinals where he lost to Musetti. He has won one title this year in Eastbourne on grass. In the opening round of the tournament, Cerundolo had to retired in the third set against Yannick Hanfmann due to an injury.

6. Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Etcheverry is ranked at No. 34 in the world. The Argentinian is 28-18 for the season and 23-12 on clay. He made a huge leap this season especially after reaching the quarterfinals in Roland Garros. However, Etcheverry lost in the opening round to Laslo Djere 7-6, 6-3.

7. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Davidovich Fokina is 35th in the world and has a 22-20 record for the season including 9-7 on clay. The Spaniard reached five quarterfinals this season and he also went that far last year in Hamburg. In the opening round, Davidovich Fokina defeated Pedro Cachin after coming back from a set down – 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. In the second round, the Spaniard lost to the teenager Lucca Van Assche from France 6-3, 6-7, 4-6.

8. Miomir Kecmanovic
Kecmanovic is 44th in the ATP rankings. The Serbian is 19-20 for the season and 9-8 on clay. He is coming off a semifinal loss to Albert Ramos Vinollas in Gstaad. In the opening round of the tournament, Kecmanovic lost to his fellow Serbian Dusan Lajovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Hamburg Open Seeds Women’s Singles
Given the fact that the women’s Hamburg Open is a tournament of the 250 series, none of the top 20 players will participate in it. Still, there are plenty of uprising starts who are targeting a top 20 spot by the end of the season.
