The standings in the Group D of the Davis Cup Finals Group stages looks pretty different than expected after the first two matchdays. The home team Croatia is stuck at the bottom with no wins and no chances to advance to the Final 8 tournament. On the other hand, the Netherlands are on the top and are already qualified for Malaga.

Our favourite Croatia vs Netherlands match predictions

The Netherlands were not given much of a chance before the tournament in Split began, but things look way different heading to the last matchday. Check in our predictions and tips article.

Netherlands to win 2-1

The Netherlands won both previous duels by 2-1, the same result by which Croatia lost both. The home team has not much of a motive for this match since they are already eliminated from the race for Malaga, and it is a question if they will play their best players in the singles. The Netherlands will know how to take advantage of it and move on to the Final 8 tournament with a maximal three wins in this group. Botic Van Den Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor are much better than any single player on the Croatian team which will probably get the job done for him leaving the Croats to say goodbye to the home crowd with a doubles win.

Will the home team get their first win?

Now that we have our Croatia vs Netherlands prediction, let’s have a quick look at all the details about the teams.

Croatia preview

Croatia has not long history playing in the Davis Cup but they have two titles in 2005 and 2018 as well as two second places. They lost both of the previous matches against USA and Finland by 2-1 and now have no chance of further success. The absence of Borna Coric took its toll on the team as Borna Gojo did what he could, but that was simply not enough to win. The team also missed Nikola Mektic who has won it all with Mate Pavic but they lost in the opening day.

Full team

  • Borna Gojo
  • Dino Prizmic
  • Dude Ajdukovic
  • Ivan Dodik
  • Mate Pavic

Captain: Vendra Martic

Netherlands preview

The Netherlands have not seen much success in the Davis Cup history with the 2001 semifinals being their best result. They had a solid season last year defeating the USA and will have a other chance to play against them in Split. However, they managed to win both matches in the group stage and have booked their ticket for the Final 8 tournament. The win against Finland was not much of a surprise but beating the USA again in a must win match for them, was quite surprising. This team looks perfect for a competition like this since they have versatile players for the singles who can be a problem for anybody, and a couple of doubles specialists who know how to get the job done.

Full team

  • Botic Van Den Zandsculp
  • Matwe Middelkoop
  • Wesley Koolhof
  • Tallon Griekspoor
  • Tim Van Ritjhoven

Captain: Paul Haarhuis
