2023 Charleston Open Predictions – Best Tennis Tips for the Day

With the Sunshine Double all done and dusted, the 2023 Charleston Open will kick off the clay court swing on the women’s side. Interestingly, these matches will be played on green clay courts. In this article, we’ll provide our Charleston Open predictions on the outright market; and we’ll take a look at some of the favourites.

Charleston Open Outright Prediction

Our pick for the Charleston Open title is Belinda Bencic. Despite her struggles at the Sunshine Double, the Swiss player has had her fair share of success on the WTA Tour this year. This will be the fifth WTA 500 event of 2023, and Bencic won two of the first four. As a matter of fact, no player has won more titles than Belinda Bencic this year. It’s also important to point out that Bencic is the defending champion here; as she won the Charleston Open title last year, whilst surrendering three sets.

Charleston Open 2023 Predictions – Day 6

Daria Kasatkina vs Ons Jabeur

Daria Kasatkina knocked out former Charleston Open champion Madison Keys in the previous round, in three sets. The Russian player has looked good in this tournament, as she surrendered just one set en route to the semi-final. However, Kasatkina has struggled against Ons Jabeur in the past; she has lost all of her last four encounters with the Tunisian player. Considering Ons Jabeur is yet to drop a set in this competition, we believe she’ll reach the final of this event for the second consecutive year.

Jessica Pegula vs Belinda Bencic

For some reason, Jessica Pegula has consistently made it to the later rounds of most of the tournaments she played this year, but is still hunting for her first title of the year. In six singles tournaments this year, the American has reached the quarterfinal five times, the semi-final four times and the final once.

Belinda Bencic, on the other hand, has already won two WTA 500 titles in 2023; she’s also the defending champion of this tournament. It’s also worth mentioning that Bencic has a perfect three wins from three against her opponent; and for this reason, we are fairly confident that she’ll advance to the final at the expense of Jessica Pegula.

Charleston Open Favourites

As we head into the semifinals, it’s important to point out that all the top four seeds made it to the last four. Interestingly, this is the first time the top four seeds reached the semi-final of a WTA 500 event in over a decade. The last time this happened was in Stuttgart 2012, when Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and Agnieszka Radwanska all reached the last four. That said, these are the favourites in this tournament:

Jessica Pegula

Fresh off a Miami Open semi-final berth, Jessica Pegula is the outright favourite to win the Miami Open title. The American is currently playing the best tennis of her career; she’s currently ranked number 3 in the World. Interestingly, although Pegula won the United Cup, as well as the Miami Open doubles title, she’s still hunting for her first WTA singles title of the year. The 29 year old reached the final of the Doha Open, as well as semi-final appearances at Dubai and Miami. With that in mind, Jessica Pegula can be backed at 8/5 (2.60).

Ons Jabeur

Up next is another player who has had a great deal of success on the WTA Tour over the past 12 months. Ons Jabeur reached two grand slam finals last year, and was ranked number 2 in the world at some point. However, the Tunisian player has struggled to find her footing recently. She suffered four losses in her last six singles matches heading into this competition, and hasn’t gotten past the third round of any tournament since mid-January. It’s important to note that Jabeur reached the final of the Charleston Open last year, and is currently priced at 11/5 (3.20) to win the title this year.
