We’ve reached the culmination of this year’s BNP Paribas Open, or Indian Wells as it is commonly known, and all that’s left is to see who the winners will be in both men’s and women’s events. When it comes to men, the two main favourites have reached this final stage – Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.

With that in mind, we have prepared a detailed preview of this match for you, including some of our best betting tips for this duel.

Alcaraz vs Medvedev – Match Predictions

While Carlos Alcaraz is the favourite in this game as the better seed at Indian Wells, it is Medvedev who is looking for his fourth title in a row this year, so this final should be as exciting as they get. After all, Alcaraz and Medvedev are arguably the best two tennis players in the world right now, in addition to Novak Djokovic, who’s missing this Sunshine Double season for familiar reasons.

So, let’s break down the upcoming Indian Wells final and our top predictions for it.

Medvedev to Win

Despite constantly complaining about the courts at Indian Wells this season, going as far as to say that they can’t be considered hard courts, Daniil Medvedev has been pretty convincing at the tournament to reach this stage, although he did drop a couple of sets en route to the final, unlike Alcaraz who hasn’t lost a single set.

The experience is on Medvedev’s side as is the form this year since he has already won three tournament before Indian Wells. Alcaraz is younger and his game is more suited to the court, but we can still see Medvedev pulling off a win on his experience alone.

Total Sets: 3 Sets

While we can see the Russian winning this match, we certainly expect an exciting spectacle between these two and that’s why our next prediction is for the match to go to three sets.

Although these are two of the best players in the world, this will be only their second meeting and while the first one ended by Medvedev winning in straight sets at Wimbledon, this is a different type of game. Alcaraz has more experience and they will play at a court that suits him much more than London’s grass, so this match going to three sets sound quite plausible.

Alcaraz vs Medvedev Preview: An Exciting Final Awaits

This will be the first time that Alcaraz and Medvedev play in the final of Indian Wells, one of the more prestigious Masters, so they will both be hoping to win their first-ever title here. Now, let’s take a look at their current form and results.

Carlos Alcaraz Preview

The 19-year-old Spaniard is already one of the best tennis players in the world, which is also evident by a look at the ATP rankings where he is currently in the second place, only behind Novak Djokovic. A win on Sunday against Medvedev would put Alcaraz in the first place, at least for a while since he will be defending his title and points won at Miami Open, right after his Indian Wells appearance.

On the route to the final, Carlos Alcaraz did not lose a single set. His opponents were Kokkinakis, Griekspoor, Draper, Auger-Aliassime, and Sinner, but none of them managed to truly test Alcaraz, which is a testament to his form ahead of his first Indian Wells final in his young career.

Daniil Medvedev Preview

With three tournament wins in a row in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai, Daniil Medvedev is on a great run of nineteen games without a loss and he is 24-2 since the start of the year. The Russian is only in sixth place in the ATP rankings right now though, but he will improve on that regardless of the result against Alacaraz in the final of Indian Wells 2023.

Medvedev was free in the first round of the tournament, after which he beat Nakashima, Ivashka, Zverev, Davidovich Fokina and Tiafoe to reach his first-ever Indian Wells final. His perhaps toughest task was against Zverev in a match that went to three sets and had two tie-breaks, while the last set ended 7-5 in favour of the Russian.

Alcaraz vs Medvedev – Head to Head Record

Despite both of these two players being at the top of the ATP rankings for the past couple of years, they only met once before. Their only h2h duel happened in 2021, at Wimbledon. Daniil Medvedev managed to win this match in straight sets, although it was an interesting match, at least in the first set since Alcaraz only won three games in the next two sets.
