Australia will need a superb performance on Saturday against Switzerland in the Davis Cup Finals Group in order to advance to the Final 8 tournament. They are going into the last matchday in third place in the group and whether they will advance to the Final 8 will also depend on the result of the match between Great Britain and France.

Our favourite Australia vs Switzerland match predictions

Australia started with a tough loss against Great Britain and now will have to bring their best game on the last day. Switzerland has no chance to advance which will probably impact their game plan against the Aussies. Check out all the Davis Cup predictions and tips on this page.

Australia to win 3-0

Switzerland is at the bottom of the group as they won only one match in the first two matchdays. They have no significant motive in this match and even if they did, Australia is just the better team. Switzerland largely depends on Stan Wawrinka but the veteran is not on top of his game to be able to carry the entire team on his back. On the other side, Australia is all hyped up after a dramatic win over France and their confidence is to the roof. The Kangaroos will need every point from this match and there is no doubt they will be able to win this one, probably with a maximal 3-0 score.

Can Australia stay alive in the Group B?

Now that we have our Australia vs France prediction, let’s see how these teams performed in the previous editions of the Davis Cup.

Australia preview

Australia is second in the all-time Davis Cup titles with 28 titles. It’s been 20 years since their last title and they were so close last year losing in the finals to Canada. Australia came into the tournament this year as a real contender but things did not start well after the 2-1 loss against Great Britain. They pulled up a great performance against France but are still ranked third at the moment and will have to make things up against Switzerland. Alex de Minaur is the main man on this team and he will need to make things happen on the last day against Switzerland.

Full team

  • Alex de Minaur
  • Max Purcell
  • Jordan Thompson
  • Thanasi Kokkinakis
  • Matthew Ebden

Captain: Lleyton Hewitt

Switzerland preview

Switzerland lost both matches against France and Great Britain with Stan Wawrinka winning the only point for them. With that being the case, Switzerland has no chance to advance to the final tournament in Malaga and it is possible the captain Luthi to put the younger players on the court. No one really expected of the Swiss team to be among the top two teams in this group since their roster is pretty limited.

Full team

  • Stan Wawrinka
  • Marc-Andrea Huesler
  • Dominic Stricker
  • Leandro Riedi
  • Alexander Ritschard

Captain: Severin Luthi
