Roberto Bautista Agut to Win 3-1 @ 29/10 (3.90)
There’s just no way that Andy Murray can do it again, right? At 35 years of age, playing with a metal hip and little game time over the past year, Andy Murray just played the longest match of his career. Two days after playing a five set match to knockout the 13th seed.
The Brit is tough, he’s resilient, but he’s not superman. As much as everyone would love to see this fairy tale continue, chances are it will end here, especially since each match that Murray plays will add to his fatigue and affect him mentally. Murray won’t go down without a fight though, so expect him to pick up a set as he goes down 3-1 to Bautista Agut.
Total Games Over 36.5 @ 17/20 (1.85)
While we’d be shocked if Murray could pull out another five setter and win, and even more shocked if he could win this one in straight sets, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this match go to four sets. Given the nature of both players style—defensive, baseline grinders—the matches should go to at least 6-4, if not 7-5 and the occasional tiebreaker.
As a result, it’s quite easy to see this match going over 36.5 games, provided Murray digs in and has the gas to win at least one set, which sounds very plausible to us given his resurgence in Australia and his certainly strong desire to keep the run going a bit longer.
Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut Preview
Here’s the tale of the tape for each of these players in the Australian Open 2023 so far:
Andy Murray
As we’ve mentioned, Andy Murray has been nothing short of heroic this week. In round one, he was up two sets to love against Matteo Berrettini, before the 13th seed knuckled in and took him to a fifth. Murray had the goods there, and made it to the second round where the reverse happened—he lost the first two sets against Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis, and had to win three sets in a row to complete an incredible comeback.
Roberto Bautista Agut
Bautista Agut had a far more sedate first round, navigating Joao Sousa in straight sets. He too is coming off a second round five setter, however, having dropped the opening two sets against American qualifier Brandon Holt and coming back to win in five.
Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head
Murray and Bautista Agut have met six times previously, with the head to head sitting at 3-3. Notably, the Spaniard has won the pass three matches, including one here at the Australian Open in 2019.
