Alexei Popyrin vs Mikael Ymer – Match Predictions
Contents
A year younger and just keeping his top 100 rankings, Alexei Popyrin would want to complete the double over Mikael Ymer in the Miami Open.
Alexei Popyrin to Win
The 23-year-old Australian bowed to the experience of Nuno Borges after defeating Ymer in the Phoenix Challenger. The quarter-final defeat will be fresh on his mind as he looks to make little work of Ymer again. Popyrin broke Ymer’s serve twice in the first half and could have achieved this target earlier had he converted the four breakpoints when the score was 1-1. Nevertheless, based on their recent meeting a week ago, it is easy to back the Australian to clinch the first set.
Under 22.5 Total Games
Their last duel saw 16 games in total, 12 in favour of Popyrin, while Ymer could only take 4 across the two sets. Popyrin was on the brink of losing his serve only twice and failed to capitalize on 13 of the 17 breakpoints he created. If he were to improve slightly, the match will finish much earlier. A degradation in his output will make the match longer but still under 22.5 games.
Alexei Popyrin vs Mikael Ymer Preview
Our predictions for this match have now been established, let’s see how these players have fared so far in the 2023 campaign.
Alexei Popyrin
Popyrin is in a good nick of form recently. He reached the 1/32 round of the Indian Wells and was only knocked out by 9th-ranked Hubert Hurkacz. He picked up where he left off in the Phoenix Challenger reaching the quarter-finals where he ran into the brick wall named Nuno Borges. Despite that defeat, he would be pleased with his performance and the extended run accomplished.
Mikael Ymer
It has been a stop-start couple of months for Mikael Ymer in 2023. He impressed at the Rotterdam Open, Marseille Open and in Dubai, but could not string together a series of wins. He has dug deep to secure these results but his resolve seems to be waning. He has not picked up a set in his last three outings and looks unlikely to do so against the in-form Popyrin.
Alexei Popyrin vs Mikael Ymer Head to Head
This meeting between Popyrin and Ymer at the Miami Open will only be their second since turning professional. They met earlier in the year at the Philadelphia open where the Australian had the upper hand over the Swede.
- 17/03/23 Alexei Popyrin won 2-o: 6-2, 6-2 (Phoenic Open, Hard)
