Scott McTominay Next Club Odds: Midfielder backed to stay in Premier League

The future of Manchester United central midfielder Scott McTominay has been a discussion topic in recent times, especially in the wake of Mason Mount moving to Old Trafford from Premier League rivals Chelsea. After only ten league starts last season, could manager Erik ten Hag be prepared to let the Scotland international leave?

McTominay has played his entire career at Man Utd, but now aged 26 he may feel as though the time has come to play more regular football. His place in the Scottish national team is not up for debate, but at club level he may feel as though he could command a starting role in most Premier League clubs.

The option to remain at the club and fight for his place of course remains on the cards, and it may indeed be the case that ten Hag wishes for him to stay anyway. With UEFA Champions League football now back on the agenda, McTominay is likely to get more football than he did last season. Another question is would starting one game and maybe not the next two be enough for him?

The most recent highlight for McTominay came when pulling on the famous Scottish jersey when netting a brace in a 2-0 victory over Spain at Hampden Park earlier this year. Highlights from that game can be found in the video below.

We wanted to check out the betting odds to see if they provide any clues regards to where McTominay could be moving, if indeed at all. A switch to Saudi Arabia can never be ruled out for any player at this moment, but the Scot perhaps doesn’t have the global appeal that they desire.

Using odds set by Bet Victor, here we take a look at the clubs that are most likely to sign Scott McTominay.

Scott McTominay Transfer Odds: Newcastle United (9/4)

McTominay fits the profile for the type of player that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe looks for in a player. He is a hard-worker, puts the team first and at 26 there is still bags of improvement in him. Howe often gets the best out of players, and McTominay would surely thrive under his management.

Whilst 9/4 means Newcastle are favourites to snap up the midfielder, the big question remains over where he would fit into the starting XI at St James’ Park. The club splashed out big money to snap up Sandro Tanoli from Milan, and Bruno Guimarães is one of the first names on the team sheet. Slotting McTominay in as a three may see the team lack balance.

Scott McTominay Transfer Odds: West Ham United (2/1)

There is an obvious case for West Ham to bolster their midfielder options after finally seeing Declan Rice complete a big-money move to Premier League rivals Arsenal. The club would have been preparing for that for a long time, and no doubt someone like McTominay would have been among the potential replacements on the shortlist.

Replacing Rice was never going to be easy, and arguably whoever comes in won’t be able to match what the Englishman could offer, but they could do worse than someone like McTominay. He is Premier League ready and with fellow Scot David Moyes in charge, it could be a match made in heaven.

Scott McTominay Transfer Odds: Everton (4/1)

Whilst David Moyes and Scott McTominay looks like one strong potential working replacement, the same could be said about McTominay pairing up with Sean Dyche at Everton. Finances would likely hinder this deal going through, unless a loan move could be arranged, but Dyche absolutely adores a player with the characteristics of McTominay.

He would offer a presence in both boxes, and more than anything he would give 110% to the cause. Regular football also would be a big plus point in this possible switch, and geographically it would work out if he wanted to remain closer to his Manchester base. Players have often moved from Everton and Man City and vice versa, and this could be another to add to that list.

Scott McTominay Transfer Odds: Any Italian club (6/1)

McTominay has played all of his football in the Premier League, but would he be willing to test himself abroad? Playing for Manchester United carries big weight across the globe, and clubs in Italy will no doubt see their scouting departments aware of what McTominay could offer. He has really impressed playing for Scotland as well, so a move to the continent cannot be easily ruled out.

Should a club in the shape of like Juventus or either of the Milan clubs express an interest, then it can be tough for a player to turn down, even if playing for Man Utd, a Premier League giant. British players have made the move to Italy in more recent times and enhanced their reputations, and McTominay would have a tricky decision to make if anything official came in his direction.

Scott McTominay Transfer Odds: Celtic (8/1)

There is an obvious romantic element to this link in that a top Scottish player makes a triumphant return back home to play for one of their top clubs. Celtic have Brendan Rodgers back at the helm, and also could offer UEFA Champions League football. However, financially it looks extremely unlikely that McTominay will sign for Celtic anytime soon.

The fact he is proven at Premier League level means adopting to Scottish Premiership standards wouldn’t be a problem, but he may feel as though this is the type of move he’d reserve for later in his career. With respect to Celtic, they cannot compete financially with Premier League teams or in any of the major European divisions.
