Liverpool have today received their Premier League fixtures ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 season and their opening match comes against a historic rival. Over the years, they’ve had many battles with Chelsea, and they’ll meet at Stamford Bridge on the maiden weekend of the campaign.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a much-improved showing from his Liverpool side having never really contested the title race in the previous season. It is now three years since their Premier League title success, and Klopp is determined to give Manchester City a run for their money.
Fans up and down the country always look forward to the release of the fixtures. It is something of a tradition in the footballing calendar, and it gives supporters the opportunity to pick out those matches they wish to attend, or maybe try to rearrange certain commitments to ensure they can make particular games across the season.
Here, we will be focusing on how Liverpool open and close the 38-game league cycle, focus on the always important Christmas period and highlight any key fixtures against a rival.

Last season, Liverpool were playing catch-up from the early portion of the campaign as they only won of their opening eight matches. Interestingly, those two wins came against Bournemouth (9-0) and Newcastle, and they face them early this time, too. With Manchester City receiving quite a comfortable start, Liverpool know the importance of starting quickly.

Liverpool: Some key dates prior to the festive period
There are always a few matches that Liverpool fans will instantly look out for when the fixtures are released. Everton, for obvious reasons is one of those. The first Merseyside Derby of the season comes in October. Also, playing Manchester City has become a must-watch over the last few seasons. Both clubs will first meet in November.

Liverpool: More rivalry meetings across Christmas
It looks more of a mixed bag across the Christmas period for Liverpool in relation to the type of opponent they will face. Klopp’s side will come up against a few newly-promoted sides they’ll target maximum points from, but they’ll also face big rivals Manchester United, too. Liverpool against Arsenal is also another standout fixture at this time of year.

Liverpool: Early 2024 opposition to keep Reds on their toes
The January-April period is likely to be where Liverpool really make a statement or they’ll fall away. You’d have thought Manchester City will be right at the top at this stage, but Liverpool must negotiate some difficult matches at the time of the season. Many rivalries will again be renewed, and Liverpool have to excel in those type of contests.

Liverpool: More tricky away clashes to end 2023/24
This could be the time of year where Liverpool are contesting for the title, they’ll certainly hope so! Every point at this time of year is absolutely crucial, but Klopp will no doubt note some of the unattractive away fixtures they’ll have. Unattractive in the sense that they won’t be so routine to get on the right side of.
