After 54 holes, Viktor Hovland is the lone man at the top of the Tour Championship at 20-under par. Despite a weather delay that lasted nearly 1.5 hours on Saturday, the 25-year-old remained hot and sank five birdies (three after the delay) compared to just one bogey at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Xander Schauffele trails Hovland by six strokes and sits in solo second. Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa are 13-under par in a tie for third.

At the conclusion of tomorrow’s final round, one player will be awarded the $18 million top prize for winning the FedEx Cup and receive a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

Highlights from round three

The following section will feature the key moments from Saturday.

Hovland keeps foot on the gas

After posting a 68 on Thursday and 64 on Friday, the Norwegian continued his streak of excellent play with a 4-under 66 to maintain the leaderboard’s top spot.

Hovland can make it two weeks in a row with a victory after hoisting the BMW Championship Trophy last Sunday and collecting $3.6 million for first.

This week, the Oklahoma State product leads the field at East Lake in strokes gained approach and is second in strokes gained tee-to-green.

A win would give Hovland his third of the calendar year and certainly make a case for him to be the PGA Tour Player of the Year. Jon Rahm is currently the frontrunner, followed by Scheffler.

Morikawa and Scheffler find trouble

After opening the day at 16-under par, tied for first with Hovland, Morikawa endured a rough day shooting a 3-over par 73.

After recording four consecutive pars, a double-bogey six on the par 4 fifth hole began his slide down the leaderboard. Back-to-back bogeys on holes 10 and 11 ultimately put a huge damper on the Cal Berkeley product’s chances to win his first title since the 2021 Open Championship.

World No. 1 Scheffler also shot a 3-over par round to drop into a tie for fifth, nine strokes behind Hovland. Despite starting the third round just two strokes behind Hovland, the University of Texas product struggled with his driver and carded four bogeys compared to just one birdie.

Scheffler nearly went birdie-free throughout his round for the first time since the final day of the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge (May 29, 2022). A birdie on the par 5, 18th kept his streak alive.

Schauffele continues hot streak at East Lake

The world No. 6 put together yet another under-par round (2-under 68) at East Lake to give himself an outside shot at winning.

Schauffele has posted rounds of 67, 64 and 68 this week. He is looking to win the Tour Championship for a second time since capturing the title in his debut (2017).
