Trying to get Open Championship tickets is never a simple task, especially with just a few days to go until the tournament gets underway. It is one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting events each year in the UK, while it is also one of the four biggest golf tournaments on the calendar.

This year, the event is taking place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake. The iconic links golf course has hosted an incredible 12 Open Championships over the years with the most recent one taking place in 2014. On that occasion, Rory McIlroy came out on top to secure his third major triumph and he goes into this week as the favourite following his win at the Scottish Open last weekend.

With McIlroy going into the event in red-hot form, and other big names such as Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Smith also playing well, it’s all set to be a dramatic week in Liverpool. If you are looking to buy some last-minute tickets then here is everything you need to know.

Where to buy The Open Championship tickets

Standard tickets

The only way to get official Open Championship tickets for face value is through the tournament’s official website. Each year, individuals are able to sign up for the ballot and then names are drawn at random. Those lucky enough to be successful are then given the opportunity to purchase tickets.

For the 2023 Championship, the ballot concluded at the back end of last summer meaning all standard tickets have been sold out for some time. However, all is not lost as there is still one way in which you are able to purchase tickets for this week’s action, but it will require a bit of luck and patience.

The tournament organisers have set up a resale section on the Open website which allows ticket holders to sell their tickets to other golf fans for face value. This section of the website will be open until the first day of action at Royal Liverpool with tickets available to purchase for all One Club Members

Once you have signed up to become a One Club Member, you can access the resale section of the website by following these steps:

  • Log into your account on the Open Championship website
  • Select “My Account” or the profile icon on the top right-hand side of the screen.
  • From the menu that will appear left-hand side of the screen, select “Ticket Resale Platform.”
  • If there are tickets, then purchase them. If there aren’t, then keep checking back throughout the day.

Premium tickets

If you want a more luxurious visit to the Open Championship this week, or if you are willing to pay over the odds due to the lack of standard availability, then you may be tempted by a premium ticket at Royal Liverpool. There are seven different premium packages being offered by the club, with more information provided on each one via the hospitality section on the tournament website

As things stand, you are no longer able to purchase premium tickets directly for the 2023 Open Championship, however, they are still taking enquiries so it could still be worth getting in touch with them to see what availability they have.
