The Solheim Cup, which for those who don’t know is the premier team golf competition in the women’s game, is nearly upon us, and what a few days it should be. Ahead of the golfing feast that is set to take place on Spanish soil at Finca Cortesin in Andalusia, it’s time to delve into the betting side of things and see if we can come up with a few worthwhile selections.

The best in the business will gather in Andalusia this week, but as it’s the Solheim Cup, it’s a little bit different. This will be all about which players can adjust their game for match-play and which players gel as a team the best. The early betting, as you can see below, suggests that Team Europe is the favourite, but the US team is not there to make up the numbers and will certainly have a big say, perhaps even a winning one.

Solheim Cup betting tips
Ahead of this week’s main golfing event, here’s a handful of bets to consider:
Carlota Ciganda Top Continental Euro Points Scorer @ 13/2 (7.50)
Carlota Ciganda is one of the more experience European players, and I think that experience could prove vital this week, so much so that she is likely to be called upon more than some of the other players. Moreover, Ciganda has the benefit of playing on home soil.
This is a player who loves to play in her homeland, a player who thrives when playing in Spain. Three of her seven European Tour wins have come on Spanish soil, so it’s fair to say that she knows how to get down to business when surrounded by the comforts of home. Moreover, this is a player who has won in this region before, winning the 2021 Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open De España by four strokes, the second biggest win of her career. I think it would be foolish to overlook the Spaniard this week and I’m betting on her to have a great week by being the top continental point scorer for the European team.
Georgia Hall Top European Points Scorer @ 15/2 (8.50)
In terms of the overall top points scorer for the Europeans, the market is dominated by Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire, though I think Georgia Hall has been a little bit overlooked here. We’re talking about a player who has plenty of Solheim Cup experience having played in each of the last four renewals, while she has a decent record, winning eight points during that time.
The 27-year-old has a lot of attributes that should suit match-play this week too. She’s currently the best scrambler on the European Tour, which should hold her in good stead here, while she’s also the top European Tour player in terms of average putts per round. The ability that she has with the putter could prove to be invaluable for the Europeans and it’s that ability that can give her a solid chance of winning a fair few points this week. At odds of 15/2, I’m having a punt on her to outscore the rest of her team.
Emily Pedersen Top European Wildcard Points Scorer @ 11/4 (3.75)
Of the wildcard picks, I really like the look of Emily Pedersen, who doesn’t exactly head to Spain in amazing form, though perhaps she is coming to the boil at the right time having played some solid golf of late, making the cut and finishing inside the top 30 in each of her last two events. Her final round at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational last week was particularly good.
There are two standouts with Pedersen. First and foremost, she looked every inch a player suited to match-play in the previous Solheim Cup, winning three of her four matches, securing a hefty three points for her team. If she can repeat that here, then she’s likely to be the best of the wildcard picks, that’s for sure. What’s more, she’s played very well in Spain before, and in this region too, winning the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open De España back in 2020, so do not be surprised to see her enjoy herself this week.
Nelly Korda Top USA Points Scorer @ 5/1 (6.00)
Solheim Cup rookie Lilia Vu is expected to have a huge week for the US, and she certainly should play her part, but in this market, I’m finding it tough to overlook Nelly Korda, who has vital Solheim Cup experience in the bag and who has been in excellent form this season.
The current world number three hasn’t missed the cut in any of her last five events, while she’s seemingly been building form ahead of this event, finishing T9, T11, T32 and T14 in her last four tournaments. She also has four top-five finishes to her name this season. Moreover, of all the players in Team USA this week, Korda is currently the best in terms of scoring average on the LPGA Tour. Such a stat cannot be ignored. Nor can the fact that this is a player who has won five of her previous eight Solheim Cup matches. If she’s on it in Spain this week, any other US player will be hard pushed to score more points as far as I’m concerned.
